This lovely antique reproduction has been carved, sanded, and finished by hand and put together using traditional construction techniques. We only use the finest wood, favored by cabinetmakers throughout the centuries: solid Honduran mahogany wood. Unlike the softer pine and the harder oak, Honduran mahogany is less brittle and more flexible, but what makes it particularly beautiful on this piece is the natural reddish-brown color, straight grain, and medium texture which are all accented by our gorgeous satin finish. Give your home an Old World look with heirloom-quality furniture from Laurel Crown.

16+ Things

16+ Things

Ok Folks...here is the deal...I was also recently asked to write 25 things about me for facebook...so rather than writting 16 more for flickr, I am going to use the same one for both... bonus for all of you (sorry) now you'll know more about me than you probably want to. :) Some of it you may already know if you have been around since I started my journaling.

1. I am totally going against my mother's wishes of "don't tell people too much about yourself"... which when I was younger I adhered closely to. The older I get the more I realize how lonely that can be.

2. I have always thought of myself as a terrible writer and my 11 yr old daughter is a better speller than I. In fact, in collage I had to take a timed written English exam (due to a technicality when I was transferring credits) AFTER already passing both required English courses. Sadly, the damn judges were on the fence and had to bring in a 3rd judge...not only once did I take that stupid test, but TWICE!!! I didn't realize that I am a "visual learner" until I was in collage. Hmmm... imagine that. It is no wonder that I tried to learn to spell not with phonics but by memorizing the shape of the word. It drove my teachers crazy. I probably should have lived during pre-historic times. I might have been a genius.

3. I have always had a love/hate relationship with keeping a journal. Love, because I am a Cancer and keep things bottled up inside to the point of bursting. Journaling always seemed (or so I have been told) like a good way to process my thoughts. Hate, because I could never stick with it longer than a day or two. Thus, I have many "diaries" that only have a few pages written in them. (Also, see #2 above) Of course, I NEVER wanted anyone to read my thoughts (see #1 above). Two years ago I stumbled upon the concept of keeping a visual journal. Kind of like a sketchbook with notes. I was floored when all of a sudden family and friends wanted to look at and read it. (crazy people!!)

The main reason I keep my journal going is so that when my kids grow up and my grandkids want to know who their grandma was, they will know me through my pictures and words. I am almost 40 and am just now starting to scratch the surface on who my parents and grandparent are on a personal level. I want to know them for who they are not how someone else perceives them. Not sure if that makes sense or not... Sorry.

4. My Hero is my father:
He was a mechanic when I was growing up. When I was very young his work fascinated me and he couldn't keep me out of his shop (which was a huge building behind our house that could fit three semitrucks in it at the same time.) He allowed me to use most all his tools, even at a very young age. I loved making things with him and watching him work.

When I was a teen, I became quite embarrassed by the profession of my father. All my friends parents were "important people" like doctors or lawyers and such... we always had other people's broken down trucks and engine parts lying around our driveways. Our house was still in the process of being remodeled the whole time I was a teen (dad was working on this in his spare time most weekends and some evenings). So in my young arrogant mind, our house didn't measure up to my friend’s homes.

When I became a young adult I realized how hard my father works. The multitude of talents he possesses. The pure joy and love he has in creating and making objects and machinery work. This is not a trait all men have as I once believed. I now love to see him in his coveralls, cap, steel toed leather boots, and with his stained fingernails (from all the hours of working). He is very patient and enjoys teaching my husband and children how to do new things. He was and still is my biggest cheering squad. He taught me the importance of doing what you love because you will be doing it for a long damn time my dad is a gem.

5. I have three older brothers and one younger. No sisters. Only 1 other girl in the neighbor hood to play with when I was growing up. When I got married I prayed long and hard for a little girl. I believe my daughter chose me.... see #6

6. I met my daughter before she was born in a dream when I was 3 months pregnant with her. It wasn’t your classic “I dreamed I had a girl” kind of dream. I actually saw her the way she looked the first time we came face to face in real life.

7. I live in a house that I only used to dream about living in. Built almost 60 years ago, with all the charm still intact. However, at the time we bought the house I didn't realize there were others living here too. The grandkids of the previous owner never noticed anything unusual. However, within the first month my daughter and a friend "saw" a shadow of a man...Dave and I hadn't noticed anything at the time. Two years ago I started hearing music playing in the middle of the night. Nothing scary or anything, just muffled music. Recently I had the house "c

On the other half of the L-shaped desk is the laser printer, a deeper conference table for editing and proofreading (and all my reference books at hand for that work), and my various writing awards on the wall.

Oh, and the autographed Weird Al Yankovic promo poster. Naturally.

Note the Neo on the desk. Yes, even with a high-powered computer two feet away to my left, I have been known to turn a quarter turn to the right and use the Neo instead. That's saying something.

Guinea pig cage with Ajax and Murray is just to the right of this half of the desk.
