Sometimes I even wonder if Yoshi
isn’t just some magnificent fraud,
but he came with very good references
and I always see his picture all over
the Zen trade rags.

There are some nights
when I even dream it’s me
that I’m searching for myself
and I’ve been with me all along
but I chalk it up to Chantix
or eating peanuts too close to bedtime
and wake up every morning
dreading the drudgery of the chase.

Sometimes killing time
over bitter coffee at a table
near a front window of a diner
spying on my latest lead
I think it might have all been better
if I hadn’t done the coin flip
and had just become a Unitarian like I wanted to

But I can’t quit
because I’m not a quitter.

Truck stop wall hanging. Beautiful old "B" model Mack front end on the wall of the restaurant at Dysart's truck stop on interstate 95 in Bangor, Maine. Notice the people, chairs and tables reflected in the chrome bumper. View large to see the diners, and vehicles parked outside reflected through the window onto the fender. I've always thought this was a classic art deco design for a truck.
