Virginia City o Suicide Table
Suicide Gambling Table
The table originally brought to Virginia City in early 1860’s; by first owner “Black Jake”, had lost $70,000.00 in one evening and shot himself.
The second owner only ran the table for one night of play. He was unable to pay off his losses and one report states he committed suicide while another report said someone saved him the trouble of doing it himself.
The table was then stored for years because no one would ‘Deal’ on it. By the late 1890’s it came out of storage and was converted in to a ’21 Table’ and by that time the reputation of the table was forgotten ….until…..a half drunk miner stumbled into the saloon , gambled a gold ring against a $5 gold piece, and won. He played all night long…. and by morning had won over $86,000.00 in cash, a team of horses and an interest in a gold mine. Everything the owner of the table had in the world. That caused the 3rd suicide!
