Gandhi's Spinning Wheel and the Making of India (Routledge Studies in South Asian History)
Spinning was seen as both an economic and political activity that could bring together the diverse population of South Asia. This book looks at the politics of spinning both as a visual symbol and as a symbolic practice. It traces the genealogy of spinning from its early colonial manifestations in Company painting to its reinterpretation, deployment and manipulation by the anti-colonial movement.

My objective is to collect and illustrate different everyday objects that carry the symbolic meanings of masculinity and femininity.
Symbols are familiar objects standing for something abstract, such as an idea, emotion, desire or belief. Tradition symbols form a universal language that becomes more mysterious as we explored new methods, such as the invention of alphabets, to make communication more direct and convenient. Nevertheless, symbols continue to give ordinary things a larger dimension, often a spiritual one. They are the hidden messages that appear in art, religion, and literature, discovering the very themes that dominate our thoughts and dreams.
