Located within some sort of art-deco building on the corner of Public Square St. and Temple St., opposite the famous Tin Hau Temple, this culinary institution has changed very little (if at all) since it first opened its doors, sixty years ago... Even the old cash till is still there...”

Having lived rather closed by as a child, I remember passing by and seeing this shoddy looking cafe as my parents and I was heading to TST for more elegant meal solutions. Who would go there, I thought. As I grew older, I realized that????(Mido Cafe) is a hidden treasure in the jungle. The food there is very nice and the atmosphere is absolutely surreal, it’s like walking into a time machine, literally. Its decor has made it especially famous as Hong Kong’s famous second wave filmmaker??? (Wong Kar Wei) and the like used it as a tasteful backdrop for many of their visually unique and highly stylized films.

*On this occasion, a film crew came upstairs just as we were about to leave.

I admit that I'm a bit of a scaredy cat. Ghosts and goblins are just not my thing. So while we are thinking about hosting a Halloween party this fall, you can bet that it will be far from spooky. One of our ideas is to host a sort of movie night. Guests will be asked to dress up as a famous movie character and the decor will be based around an old theater.
