Winter Wonderland (Picture the Seasons)
Each year, as days grow shorter and trees become bare, the world outside seems to slow and darken. But for children, this time of year is magical. The frosty air crackles with play and laughter. There’s a sense of excitement as snow and cold weather make for outdoor adventures that aren’t possible any other time of year. This charming picture book, the latest in National Geographic’s popular Picture the Seasons series, is a vibrant celebration of winter traditions. Winter means family, as loved ones travel many miles to visit. Holiday events bring a spark of warmth and togetherness that seems to happen only in winter. Twinkling lights and colorful displays bring cheer and goodwill. Glowing candles invite visitors to share a festive meal. Frosty weather outside draws lacy patterns on the windowpanes. With this beautifully photographed book in the home or classroom library, children will return time and again to see, feel, and learn about the magic of winter. An excellent choice for teachers wishing to celebrate the season, as well as for grandparents who seek a meaningful gift for their little ones.

Winter wonderland
Welcome to my Winter Wonderland! :-) 5 inches of snow overnight after a week of rain. Looks like we might have a white Christmas (sorry: Holiday season) after all. :-)
And yes, the light was just as blue as in the photo this morning (it's not the white balance of my cameraphone this time).
It's also worth saying that this photo was taken in the middle of Trondheim, just by my bus stop. There's a 4 lane highway right behind me :-)
Update: In November 2007 the trees and house on this picture was torn down to be replaced by a set of new apartment buildings :-(

2010 two CD holiday collection. Winter Wonderland is a totally dynamic collection that presents the very best of Christmas, both sacred and secular, and features some of the best remembered performers of all time. The first CD focuses on Fred Waring and His Pennsylvanians who's Christmas albums were among the best sellers of the `50s and `60s. The Andrews Sisters and Guy Lombardo's joint recordings, 'Winter Wonderland', 'Merry Christmas Polka', 'Christmas Island' and 'Christmas Candles' sold in their millions. Finally the icing on the (Christmas) cake has to be the entire Dick Haymes Christmas album appearing on CD for the first time with such gems as 'The Christmas Song' and 'Christmas Dreaming'. Jasmine.
