Don was thrilled to have a signed contract tucked in his satchel along with all the screen samples. The mule ride back down the mountain felt much less challenging with the hope of a big bonus when he got back to Cleveland. He was also excited for a celebration dinner when the train took him back to Denver. He couldn't decide on The Brown Palace or Buckhorn Exchange. He heard tales about it's wild atmosphere and thought if he survived two mule rides up and down this narrow mountain path that he could survive that as well.

This view is of the top two floors of the Old Patent Office Building and looking down one wing. The building was designed in the Greek Revival style in the 1830s, and the original architecture and decor have been retained in this section. In the 1850s, Clara Barton worked here as a clerk to the Patent Commissioner, the first woman federal employee to receive equal pay. During the Civil War, the building was turned into military barracks, hospital, and morgue. Wounded soldiers lay on cots in third-floor galleries, among glass cases holding models of inventions that had been submitted with patent applications.
