Shona wanted a ring which didn't use real diamonds for ethical reasons, so we arrived at this design using natural (uncut) formations of diamonds in a cluster along the top of the ring. The platinum has been left unpolished to emphasise the form of the cluster, apart from the inside which is polished.
This was made with a lot of Solidworks assistance from Ian Thompson at Coleg Llandrillo's Innovation Centre! A couple of variations were printed by Shapeways to try out the size etc, then the CAD file was sent to be milled from wax, then cast in Platinum.
Jane Taylor's Emerald-Cut Diamond Cluster ring features a pave-set emerald-shaped halo around a 0.83ct radiant cut fancy deep blue created diamond. The shank is tapered with smooth corners. The ring is made with 18kt white gold.
