content: The Colts waived OG Josh Beekman, OT Casey Bender, WR Joe Horn, RB Devin Moore, S Chip Vaughn and QB Mike Hartline. The team also waived/injured LB Cody Glenn and S Mike Newton.Additionally, Indianapolis signed S Michael Hamlin and waived/injured CB Cornelius Brown.WR Anthony Gonzalez (hamstring), WR Austin Collie (foot), and S Antoine Bethea (hamstring) have all missed time in practice in recent weeks. WR Blair White remains on the Colts' PUP list with a sore back.PLAYER NOTES--OT Jeff Linkenbach is expected to start at right offensive tackle with veteran tackle Ryan Diem moving inside to guard. Linkenbach began training camp this year at left offensive tackle before being supplanted by first-round draft pick Anthony Castonzo.--RB Donald Brown remains as the Colts' primary backup to starter Joseph Addai. Brown has struggled since being drafted in the first round by Indianapolis in 2009 due to injuries. He needs to develop more consistency.--CB Jacob Lacey will be the Colts' starting left cornerback heading into the regular season. Lacey has taken over for former starter Kelvin Hayden, who was not re-signed after the 2010 season. He is getting competition from second-year CB Kevin Thomas.--LB Ernie Sims has been impressive when he's able to play for Indianapolis. Signed as a veteran free agent during training camp, Sims' progress was slowed when he underwent surgery for an appendectomy. But he has played well when given the opportunity.--OG Mike Pollak appears to be the odd man out on the Colts offensive line. Pollak has been the starter at right offensive guard, but Indianapolis moved ROT Ryan Diem to guard during training camp. Diem will apparently start the regular season there.--DT Tommie Harris, like Sims, was a veteran free agent signed by the Colts during training camp. Harris has been slowed in camp by hamstring issues but he played relatively well in the preseason loss to Green Bay. He had a sack and very nearly intercepted a screen pass.--TE Brody Eldridge underwent two medical procedures on his knee during the offseason. Eldridge has been limited in training camp as he recovers from the surgeries and his rehabilitation. He hopes to be ready to go when the Colts begin the regular season.DRAFT PICKS TO STICKRd. 1/22, OT Anthony Castonzo, Boston College -- Castonzo moved into the starting lineup his second week of training camp and has never left. He figures to be the Colts' long term answer to left offensive tackle after the team opted not to re-sign OT Charlie Johnson.Rd. 2/49, OT Youth New England Patriots Jerseys Ben Ijalana, Villanova -- There had been some talk that Ijalana would see work at offensive guard during training camp, but he's slated to remain at offensive tackle for now. With the decision to move veteran OT Ryan Diem to guard, Ijalana will push to take over at right offensive tackle.Rd. 3/87, DT Drake Nevis, LSU -- Outstanding talent who has been impressive since the Patriots Jersey start of training camp. After a sluggish start, Nevis has gotten better each day. He will be pushing for a starting job and additional playing time as the season progresses.Rd. 4/119, RB Delone Carter, Syracuse -- If not for Nevis, would probably the rookie who has impressed the most during training camp and the preseason. Thought to be primarily a short-yardage and goal line Patriots Jersey Womens runner, he has shown the ability to bounce plays outside and be a big play threat.Rd. 6/188, CB Chris Rucker, NFL New England Patriots Jerseys Michigan State -- An ankle injury didn't help him progress at the start of training camp, but he has shown enough ability and potential to earn a roster spot. As he continues to develop, Rucker is expected to push starter Jacob Lacey and battle second-year CB Kevin Thomas for playing time.UNIT-BY-UNIT ANALYSIS:QUARTERBACKS Starter -- Peyton Manning. Backups -- Kerry Collins, Curtis Painter.Manning is expected to start the season slowly, due to his offseason neck surgery and extended rehabilitation. The addition of Collins finally gives Indianapolis a proven veteran backup quarterback. Painter struggled in the Colts' first two preseason games but stepped up his game in a 24-21 loss to Green Bay.RUNNING BACKS Starter -- Joseph Addai. Backups -- Donald Brown, Delone Carter, Javarris James.Addai remains as the most complete running back on the team's roster. He's dependable as a runner, can catch the ball out of the backfield and may be one of the best pass blocking backs in the league. Brown remains inconsistent but has the talent to become a full-time starter. Carter has been impressive as a rookie in training camp and the preseason.TIGHT ENDS Starter Men New England Patriots Jerseys -- Dallas Clark. Backups -- Brody Eldridge, Jacob Tamme, Mike McNeill.Clark is back from a wrist injury that sidelined him for the second half of the 2010 season. He has had a strong training camp and appears to be ready for another big year. Eldridge is recovering from two offseason knee surgeries. Tamme had a breakout season in 2010 and will see additional playing time this year.WIDE RECEIVERS Starters -- Austin Collie, Pierre Garcon, Reggie Wayne. Backups -- David Gilreath, Anthony Gonzalez, Blair White.Wayne and Garcon are going to need help from Gonzalez and Collie if they can remain healthy. White has also battled a back issue in training camp. Gilreath has a chance to make the team as a kick returner as well but could be a welcome addition as a receiver.OFFENSIVE LINEMEN Starters -- LT Anthony Castonzo, LG Joe Reitz, C Jeff Saturday, RG Ryan Diem, RT Jeff Linkenbach. Backups -- G Kyle DeVan, T Ben Ijalana, C Jake Kirkpatrick, G Womens New England Patriots Jerseys Jacques McClendon, G Mike Pollak. The offensive line has been in flux during the preseason and training camp. Saturday is the only sure thing at center. Castonzo earned a starting job as a rookie while Diem is sliding inside from tackle to guard. Reitz and Linkenbach have limited experience overall and at their respective positions. Ijalana will push for playing time at right tackle. Pollak is also a possibility at either guard spot.DEFENSIVE LINEMEN Starters -- LE Robert Mathis, LT Fili Moala, RT Antonio Johnson, RE Dwight Freeney. Backups -- DE Jamaal Anderson, DE Tyler Brayton, DT Eric Foster, DT Tommie Harris, DE Jerry Hughes, DT Drake Nevis.Freeney thinks this group of defensive lineman might just be the best since he arrived in Indianapolis. It's an interesting mixture of experience and youth. Freeney, Mathis, and Harris are all Pro Bowlers. Anderson is trying to find his niche after struggling in Atlanta. Brayton gives Indianapolis a potential run stopper. Nevis is an impressive rookie. Foster is Mr. Consistent. Hughes is hoping to breakthrough this season.LINEBACKERS Starters -- SLB Pat Angerer, MLB Gary Brackett, WLB Kavell Conner. Backups -- LB Ernie Sims, LB Nate Triplett, LB Philip Patriots Jersey Youth Wheeler.Brackett leads the way but he has a pair of second-year linebackers, Angerer and Conner, who have earned starting jobs outside with impressive rookie seasons. Sims will push Conner for work. Wheeler can play either outside linebacker position. Triplett has been a special teams contributor.DEFENSIVE BACKS Starters -- LCB Jacob Lacey, SS Melvin Bullitt, FS Antoine Bethea, RCB Jerraud Powers. Backups -- S Al Afalava, S Joe Lefeged, S David Caldwell, CB Chris Rucker, CB Kevin Thomas, CB Justin Tryon.Bethea and Bullitt could form one of the better safety combinations in the league. Powers is coming into his own as a young cornerback. Lacey was productive as a nickel back as a rookie two years ago but must now step his game up as a starter outside. Thomas and Rucker figure to push Lacey. Lefeged is Kids New England Patriots Jerseys another impressive undrafted rookie from Rutgers.SPECIAL TEAMS PK Adam Vinatieri, P/H/KO Specialist Pat McAfee, LS Justin Snow, PR David Gilreath, KR Joe Lefeged.Vinatieri has recovered from knee and leg issues that he suffered two seasons ago. He has been booming kicks in training camp and the preseason while showing no signs of slowing down. McAfee slipped a bit as a punter last year but worked hard in the offseason to recover his consistency. He has also become an additional option as a long-range placekicker. McAfee also handles kickoffs for the Colts. A pair of undrafted rookies, Gilreath and Lefeged, appear to have earned jobs as punt and kick returners.Copyright (C) 2011 The Sports Xchange.
