My Macro Toolkit
Just thought I'd post a photo of the kit I use for taking Macros, so that if anyone is interested they can see what I use.
I can't afford a dedicated Macro Lens so I've had to go down the cheap accessory route instead and to be honest, under most conditions I think these do as good a job as a dedicated lens.
All of this kit cost me well below ?100 and I would say is definite value for money.
The extension tubes are Jessops own, I got those second hand for ?15. I can use these will all my EF lenses, and used with my 50mm lens can produce slightly over 1x magnification.
The reverse coupling rings that I use to attach my 50mm f/1.8 to my longer lenses, I got off ebay for ?12 including postage. These allow me to get high magnification ratios of well over 1x.
The Macro Focusing Rail, which has been my last investment, cost me ?35 off ebay including postage. I decided to get this because it can be very difficult to focus when using the extension tubes or the reverse coupling rings. It's easier to move the camera forward/back or sideways with this kit, and it makes it a lot easier to get the focus in the right place. This also makes it easier to take shots that I can use in focus stacking software.
I've only just started playing with this software, but it has the advantage of being able to create photos with much greater DoF as it combines a set of shots taken while moving the focus backwards or forwards.
The software I have found recently is called CombineZP and is freeware.
