It is a must to have a set of quality d-ring shackles with adequate load rating, when venturing offroad. - And there's nothing wrong with having them look good too! Available in - American Iron and Steel Institute AISI 316: Austenitic (chromium-nickel stainless class) stainless steel containing 2%-3% molybdenum. The inclusion of molybdenum gives 316 greater resistance to various forms of deterioration.
A client wanted something for his girlfriend but his budget didn't stretch to something 100% sterling. He asked for a collar that would have a ring into which he could hook a leash. It also needed to appear pretty and somewhat delicate. Finally he wanted it to have 'jewels.'
This is what I crafted for him. Here's hoping it meets his needs.
Square Stainless steel wire, Half round sterling wire, twisted square sterling wire, round sterling wire, and a lot of muscle went into building this collar. The stainless steel is less than cooperative most of the time. Making that center focal loop took more time than the rest of the collar.
I tied a long two bight turks head knot(21 lead 2 bight) with some black and white 0.9mm nylon string on this anchor shackle. I tried some ringbolt hitching first, but that didn't work out so well, so I gave the turks head knot a try.
I bought the small shackle for attaching some key chain carry items: Leatherman Squirt S4 multitool, Howler Whistle, ITP A3 EOS LED flashlight.
Some folks use the shackles for paracord bracelets, although that can be a bit awkward at first, in getting used to putting them on and taking them off with the screw pin attachment of the shackle.
