Prince of Asturias nagrada

To whom it may concern:

It has been brought to my attention that World Youth Day Madrid 2011 (WYD) has been submitted for candidacy for the 'Príncipe de Asturias de la Concordia' award by Ms. Catalina Luca de Tena, President and Editor of ABC.

I would like to express my complete support for the nomination based on the important achievements the event has accomplished August 16-21, 2011. The youthful spirit, solidarity, and tolerance that have swept through the streets of Madrid and the entire country have brought hope and optimism back into the hearts and minds of this society. Not only in our country, but in the entire world, with a potential audience of 600 million viewers from all five continents, World Youth Day Madrid 2011gathered over one million young people together from 193 countries to serve as a symbol of tolerance and peaceful coexistence. We are living in a time of crisis when it comes to our values, which has manifested itself as an economic crisis in recent years, but this event is a testament to the power that young people - believers and non-believers alike - from all over the world have to make a positive change on a global level.

Finally, I'd like to acknowledge the social significance that World Youth Day 2011 has considering its work with legislative, economic, civil, and church leaders along with 30,000 Spanish and foreign volunteers. This international project is a true example of what the 'Principe de Asturias de la Concordia' represents and well deserves to be honored with this very prestigious award, which would not only validate the organization's efforts, but surely communicate a message of hope worldwide.

Sincerely,
