World's first eye-controlled laptop is a Lenovo, and it runs on Swedish software.
Eye Reading - or eye tracking - works by cameras looking at your eyes and extremely accurate measurement of your gaze direction can accurately say what you are looking at.
It's one of those technologies where it is hard to believe that it can be done. The eye movements to be measured is listed in tenths of a millimeter, if your HP g70 battery is sufficiently accurate to calculate what you are looking at.
But it works, says the Swedish company Tobii, which has created software and the special edition of the hardware that is installed on Lenovo laptop.
Yet only as a prototype
The Eyetrackeren you can see the black strip below the screen. It's still a bit impractical large for a Compaq HP nc6400 battery, but it is the first prototype and Tobii say they can do it much less.
Eye Checks should be wonderful. Tobii imagines that it can be used for example to display information about icons or files, once you look at them. Or what about a laptop that turns down the screen brightness when you look away?
If you zoom in Google Maps or just in your image, then zoom auto focus on the place where you look.
Look at the icons
Best of all, it might be that windows automatically jumps forward in focusing on the screen when you look at their icon or just the corner of their window, which you can see other windows. And if you read a list of e-mails or files, then rolls the screen automatically on up when you approach the end of the list.
Since your eye movements are completely automatic and almost as fast as your thoughts, so should this kind of control - at least if it is done properly and calibrated - feels almost as if the Toshiba satellite p300 battery is reading your thoughts. The things you want to see pop up automatically on the screen when you think about them.
There is no doubt that this type of interface is a step closer to a fully automated collaboration between the computer and us if it works properly.
Combined with new interaction techniques, gestures and speech, we are approaching actually a way to work with the computer, which is light years from the keyboard and mouse.
Tobiis eyetrackingteknologi should be one to two years from commercial use, so there is so little time before you can buy a laptop with it.
