I offered to you when Tenpenny released his 2004 album that it was but a precursor to the great things to come. The prophecy is fulfilled as the Steve Tenpenny Band releases a live album full of the very things that were predicted. Tenpenny authors all fifteen cuts but for a two-song tribute to Billy Joe Shaver and a Paul Simon cover. The Simon cover, by the way, is one of the best renditions of “Mrs. Robinson” you’ll ever hear. Tenpenny invites guest vocalist Kina Lankford on two tunes. Throughout the album, Tenpenny lets the band cut loose on a wide open road trip through well-written, masterfully performed tracks. Well-captured, this is one of the best live albums I’ve heard in some time. Remember this disc at award time. It wouldn’t be the first live album to be nominated for Album of the Year. Truly a Texas rock album, there’s enough country influence to make it feel down home. You can’t go wrong on this one.
Previous notes:
Today's popular Texas sound is a blend of traditional instrumentations and innovative lyrics. Nobody is better at it then Steve Tenpenny.
Tenpenny's voice is radio ready and dancehall friendly as he delivers flawlessly on all twelve cuts. His rock influence is evident on "Train To Nowhere" and you will enjoy Tenpenny's softer side as well. Nicely produced, the CD is but a precursor to the great things to come from this Dallas-area native.
