World No. 16 Mardy Fish holds a 2-1 series edge against Juan Martin Del Potro heading into their semifinal clash Saturday evening. The two last met in early 2009, where the American scored a quarterfinal victory in San Jose.
Fish is bidding for his 18th ATP World Tour finals berth. The 2009 Delray Beach champion advanced to the final four without dropping a set, having earned wins over Bjorn Phau, Ricardo Mello and Alejandro Falla.
The second set is set to make his second consecutive semifinal appearance, following his final four finish in Memphis last week.
Wildcard Juan Martin Del Potro reached his third consecutive semifinal, by virtue of his 6-4, 6-4 victory over fifth seed Kevin Anderson. The 22-year-old has not surrendered a set in Delray Beach, having downed Richard Berankis and Teymuraz Gabashvili earlier in the week.
Del Potro, who enters into the semifinal looking for his 11th win this season, will attempt to pass into his first final since 2009.
