KANADA

BRILJANTI SJETE

Mojima u Kanadi: dragoj mi sestri Milki i zetu Tonyju Jacoboni; njihovoj djeci, Peteru i Mary; nevjesti Katarini i zetu im Felixu Gargaro, te unuku Joeyu i unuci Kristini, inače jednoj od najuspješnijih mladih golf igračica u Kanadi.“

DIAMONDS OF NOSTALGIA

To my relatives in Canada: my dear sister Milka and brother-in-law Tony Jacoboni; their children Peter and Mary; their daughter-in-law Katarina and son-in-law Felix Gargaro, and their grandchildren Joey and Kristina, who is actually one of the best young golfers in Canada

Pokrenuo se cvijet na srcu zemlje
djevičanski čist i bijel
poput Kasakawulsh Glaciera
na Mounte Maxwellu u Yukonu
i narastao u raskošni kikot
preplanulih suncokreta Altone u Manitobi

Samo je privid da je vrijeme stalo
podno Cape Sibleya u Thunder Bayu u Ontariju
i u ribarskom naselju Burgeo u Newfoundlandu
čujem prigušen jauk osamljenog Percé Rocka
i šűm u pramcima usnulih brodica
u naručju Gaspé Peninsule u Quebecu
dok svjetionik s Peggy's Covea u Novoj Scotiji
miluje prostranstva oceana

Gledam kako zlatna jesen
prosiplje purpurne briljante
po voćnjacima Prince Edward Islanda
i kako oprezni Eskim u svom kajaku
iz ledena sna budi Nortwest Territories

Poput modrog dragulja blistaju grad i rijeka
Saskatoon u South Saskatchewanu
kao da ne postoji prerijska studen
i sivilo dalekog Meachama

Zasljepljuje me odbljesak biserja
u plavetnilu nemirnog St John River Valleya
i na razigranom potoku u gustoj šumi četinara
u Kings Landingu povijesnog Settlementa
u New Brunswicku

Prisustvujem svetkovini cvijeća
u Jasper Nacional Parku u Alberti
i čudesnoj igri planinskog slapa
što se nalik na raspletene paučinaste kose
rasuo niz cvjetna ramena Bugaboosa
ali ne vidjeh nigdje tako napaćenih očiju
kao što su na onom indijanskom totemu
iz Prince Ruperta u British Columbiji!

CANADA

A flower moved in the heart of the earth,
virginally pure and white
like the Kasakawulsh Glacier
on Mount Maxwell in the Yukon
and grew into the splendid chortle
of the bronzed sunflowers of Altona, Manitoba.

It is only an illusion that time stopped
below Cape Sibley, in Thunder Bay, Ontario
and in the fishing village of Burgeo
in Newfoundland
I hear the muffled wail
of the lonesome Perce Rock
and the mutter in the bows
of the sleeping boats
in the arms of Quebec's Gaspe Peninsula
while the lighthouse from Peggy's Cove
in Nova Scotia
strokes the expanses of the oceans

1 watch golden autumn
scattering purple diamonds
over the orchards of Edward Island
and the cautious Eskimo in his kayak
wakening the North West Territories
from their frozen sleep

The city and river of Saskatoon
in South Saskatchewau
are gleaming like a blue gem-stone
as if there were no prairie chill
or all the gray of far-off Meacham

I'm blinded by the reflection of the pearls
in the blue of restless St John Valley
and in the playful brook
in the thick pine forest
of King's Landing of New Bnmswick's
historic Settlement.

I take part in the celebration of flowers
in Alberta's Jasper National Park
in the marvellous play of the mountain falls
scattermg like unbraided gossamer hair
down the flowered shoulders of Bugaboos
but I saw nowhere such anguished eyes
as on that totem pole
from Prince Rupert in British Columbia.
