Blackberry and Saudi Arabia: first suspended and then reinstated
After numerous discussions about the Research in Motion between Canadian and American governments and Saudi Arabia, has agreed to block the services of RIM Blackberry and all its communications, because it deemed uncontrollable by the government. This action was taken to Saudi Arabia first, but other Arab states announced that they follow this path, such as the United Arab Emirates have announced that RIM will interrupt the service in October.
In Saudi Arabia some local news agency reported experiences of users, who no longer had the possibility to send SMS and access to e-mail services on the Blackberry. This is because the services of the house does not meet the requirements of Canadian law, and of course Saudi RIM has no intention for this to change its policy. But something seems to move. In fact, after four hours of offline, the services were restored. According to some sources, the mobile operators in Saudi Arabia, STC and Mobily, did everything they could to restore service, so that the interruption of BlackBerry service had not yet been officially notified, despite threats of Communications Authority to the Blackberry.
Currently there are no other reliable information, but it would seem that RIM is working on an agreement with the Saudi government to prevent a new block. The request by the Arab states is only one: RIM move servers within their own country so that governments can easily handle all the traffic data from users Blackbarry.
