To get another weekly dose of museality we went to the Zagreb Municipal Museum to see the exhibition Photographic albums of the Hellenbach family (klik).
but we were quite disappointed. ZMM always has great exhibition, but this one we find borringish.
But, “ver ex anno tollere” as old Romans would said. So we chose what we like. And being golly&bossy it means: the clothes.
Ovo se oženi jedan Hellenbach. Inspirirana Scarlet O'Harom, mlada se ogrnula kontrinom.
The wedding of a Hellenbach. Inspired by Scarlet O’Hara the bride covered herself with a curtain.
The same Hellenbach was ship master. This is him with his wife on the ship. And although we do not approve the curtain as a veil, this dress is great. We’d look horrible in it, though.
Before becoming the nobility, Hellenbachs were miner in Slovakia. Maybe that's why this Hellenbach wears the miner’s costume. The look is horrible, but we are envy of this tiny waist.
Ovo ni Hellenbachica nego rodica Papadopoli-Aldobrandini. Izgleda wow.
This isn’t a Hellenbach but a cousin. Lady Papadopoli-Aldobrandini. She looks wow.
Mladi rođaci Pejačevići, u modernim gladijatoricama.
Young cousins, counts of Pejačević, in very modern gladiator sandals.
Being very sensitive to the social injustice we can’t skip the oppressed ones. One of the Hellenbach ladies was the amateur photographer so she was taking pictures of their estate and their serfs. These are Štef and Mara in front of the piggery. Either Štef and Mara are very small or this pig is huge. Unlike young Pejacevic’s unfortunate Mara is barefoot, and she is in the piggery.
This photo we like the most. We named it The Sacred Family because we think it suits it better then the offical title The peasant family. Note how these people are barefoot too.
Pogled na jedan pano. Boooooring.
This is the look of the exhibition. Booooring.
Zato je ova izložba baš dobro dizajnirana. Priroda krških polja Dinarida (klik) u Hrvatsken prirodoslovnen muzeju kroz puno slika i dobro organiziranega teksta uči nas o kršu i o prirodi i društvu na njemu.
On the other side, this exhibition has a good design. The nature of the karstic polje of Dinarida (click) in Croatian Natural History Museum with lot's of photos and well organized text take us through the karst and it's biodiversity. Unlike the the Municipal museum, somebody here thought of the foreigners and wrote everything in English too. Too bad their web is bad.
Exhibitions is made mainly of this panels, and there are taxidermy birds from the two centuries ago that really look a bit out of the time.
But this is the top: an aquarium with the endemic and the endangered Delminichthys krbavensis and the endemic and the endangered Croatian Dice (Telestes polylepis) from karst rivers (click). Dice lives in the river of Stajnička Jaruga that is only one meter wide and 2 kilometres long while the Delminichtys has the whole 8.5 kilometres in Suvaja. We had the feeling that most of their population is right there in that aquarium and immediately we wanted to go Lika and save those little fishes.
The moral of this exhibit: an animal is worth a thousand words
