Clorinde are a relatively new project made up of brothers Simone and Andrea Salvatici. It is obvious from the outset of ‘The Creative Listener’ that Clorinde are very serious about the music they make. ‘Anno Domini’ is like some traditional English baroque style jam. It’s quite upbeat by comparison to some of the other compositions contained within but it pretty much sets the tone for the rest of the record. Part ancient classical guitar music, part minimalist electronic composition ‘The Creative Listener’ certainly has a fare amount on offer. I can hear all sorts of variation on the acoustic guitars as well as glockenspiels, accordions, marimbas as well as my personal favourite, the Kalimba, a wondrous little thumb piano that can be heard most effectively on Celine (check the sound clips kids). On first listen I’m really enjoying this but I also get the impression it’s a grower with more intricacies to be discovered with repeat listens. If you enjoy the minimalist composition of Steve Reich and the like you’ll certainly find something to enjoy here.

“The debut album “the Creative Listener” released by Etruscan Records is an inspired and intricate work where beautiful acoustic and electric sounds float free and magically find a conjunction in shapes and forms.

Always in balance between chaotic implosions and explosive melodies, is reminiscent of some of the renaissance music and minimalism and it drags the listener into a creative imaginative process.” – Etruscan Records

“The album took more than a year to see the light, a year of constant efforts and struggles, magic moments and beautiful discoveries that led us to fulfil our vision, through creative listening we made this possible.”

You feel the frustration and the beauty that encapsulates a year’s worth of work, the magic of fantasy and the melancholy of reality. It’s instrumental folklore that evokes a gritty and sensational voyage. The result as a listener is exalting and pure. The challenge of being “The Creative Listener” is the seduction, you delve further into their universe and immerse yourself in the highs and lows of this two man orchestra; a bond that is something akin to soul searching, a journey we all need from time to time.
