I was checking out the page for Wings on Shinshokan's website when I found an Oukami Mineko interview. Of course, I wanted to translate it, so here it is. The last question contains potential spoilers for upcoming DK chapters.(This would have been posted nearly an hour ago, except LJ ate it so I had to reformat it and everything AGAIN.)Q1 What's the origin of your pen name?A1 I like wolves and cats.Q2 What's the first manga you bought?A2 I think the first manga I bought myself was probably "Urusei Yatsura" ... but before that I might have bought one of Yuzuki Hikaru-sensei's books. Incidentally, before I bought things myself, my parents bought me "Candy Candy" and Satonaka Machiko-sensei's "Mister Lady".Q3 If you hadn't become a mangaka, what would you have become?A3 ... (o) I never thought about that. Perhaps someone who lives on part-time work.Q4 If you were to compare yourself to an animal?A4 Cat. I'd like to say that, but for some reason, I'm more rabbit-like ...Q5 Your favorite anime?A5 Favorite ... It pains me to say this, but "Creamy Mami".Q6 How many cats do you have now?A6 Five.Q7 How many outfits do you have for your cats?A7 About a hundred? Maybe more? (Most of them are for my black cat Emma.)Q8 Your three favorite animals?A8 Wolf, cats, black dogs.Q9 At the moment, what are you most addicted to?A9 Making memories taking little trips with my black cat.Q10 The biggest crisis in your life! What was it?A10 I was at a Disney resort hotel for two days, and on the second evening there was a Takarazuka performance, "Bara no Fuuin", scheduled (that was all I could go to on my schedule). I ran from Disney Sea to the Takarazuka theatre as fast as I could and just got there. Anyway, I was in the third tier on the first floor ... and furthermore, it was Rika-san's last performance with the troupe. Just as I sat down, the lights went out on the stage.Q11 Please tell us one thing you pride yourself on.A11 My black cat is so obedient I can take her anywhere. Even if I fall asleep on the train, she obediently sleeps as well in my bag (laugh).Q12 What TV shows do you always watch?A12 My favorite anime and my favorite foreign drama.Q13 How do you relieve stress when working?A13 I look at photos of my cats.Q14 Your background music when working?A14 I don't listen to music.Q15 What are your favorite and least favorite parts of producing a manga?A15 My favorite is creating episodes full of foreshadowing and drawing the characters' expressions in those moments. I don't like doing the storyboard.Q16 The characters that are easy to draw, and the characters that are difficult to draw?A16 Sabel is easy to draw (both face and personality). Lykouleon's hair is hard to draw.Q17 Who did you use as models for the characters?A17 For Sabel, Kaburagi Jouichirou; for Teceous, a certain matchless person; for Nadil, Phantom 10 of Maou-den; for Thats' Master, Todd Guinness, for Sakumo, Kayin Amoh. I only used their faces as models (though for some of them the contents are also similar).Note: I don't know who she's referring to for Sabel or Teceous (I guessed at the reading "Kaburagi Jouichirou"; there were several other possibilities). I don't know Phantom 10, but Maou-den is part of the Demon City Blues series. Todd Guinness is a character from the mech series Aura Battler Dunbine (amusingly, Vierres is named after Todd's rather ugly mech). Kayin is a character from Battle Arena Toushinden.Q18 The character you're most attached to?A18 Gill.Q19 What are you most concerned about with your manga?A19 If I can cover the lack of power in the strokes (^^;). Introducing a story once, then not developing it.Q20 What food or drink do you always have when working?A20 Chocolate.Q21 Which character would you want as your lover?A21 Lykouleon.Q22 Which character would you want as your husband?A22 Luwalk.Q23 What highlights are ahead for "Dragon Knights"?A23 The last spurt. Mysteries will be solved and mysteries will be prolonged (laugh).Q24 When are you in a state of bliss?A24 When I'm coming home from the theatre.Q25 Which manga has influenced you?A25 "Urusei Yatsura".Q26 What sort of manga do you want to draw from now on?A26 A story with a stylish adult male as the lead~. After that, as something different, a blond protagonist.Q27 Please tell us the most enjoyable and the toughest things in a mangaka's life.A27 The times when I can convey my feelings in the impression the work gives are always the happiest and most enjoyable. Autograph sessions and letters and mail. As for the toughest things, preparing a storyboard every month, and having to endure drowsiness when I'm nearly finished.Q28 If you entered the "DoraKishi" world for one day, who would you be and what would you do?A28 It's trite, but I would become Sabel, and ride his flying fish wherever I pleased, destroying things incidentally (laugh). Being healed by the minus ions in water would be good too.Q29 Please tell us a little about upcoming developments as "DoraKishi" approaches its climax!A29 Even now, Rath has Kaistern's sword. Always. If you look closely you'll understand. After that~, there'll be two kinds of Dragon Eyes, inborn and false. There'll be new characters, three siblings - older brother/younger sister twins with a little brother (some parts have already been arranged to debut). Karl is a subordinate of the Four Devas. Nadil will make a come-back though right now he's dispossessed and sleeping. Then, because I saw a certain musical, Karl will gain eight servants, and I think I'll get those eight to flirt with each other. (Galfacsy will be in charge of them, however. Karl forced them on him (laugh).)Note: for info on the Four Devas, check out the Wiki page. Man, I hope Oukami-sensei goes through with all this. It would be awesome.
