Matt Hires (born August 5, 1985) is an American singer-songwriter from Tampa, Florida.
As a cabinet store worker by day and a musician by night, Hires always had a passion for music.Matt’s father, also a musician, introduced him to music at a young age, giving him the handmade guitar that Matt continues to play. Initially drawn to the punk and post-hardcore scene, Matt later developed an interest in artists like Tom Petty and Bob Dylan, which explains the uniqueness of his vocal and instrumental harmonies that dabble in both traditional and contemporary musical realms.
Matt’s early career began as a part of a quartet of friends, named Brer. After leaving Brer, Hires began performing as a solo artist and uploaded his recordings on Myspace, where Atlantic Records A&R executive, Gregg Nadel, fell in love with his sound. Soon Hires began working with producer Eric Rosse (Sara Bareilles, Tori Amos, David Archuleta) who helped him fine-tune his songwriting.
Matt Hires seems to be the epitome of the sunshine state: bare-footed, artistic, and coolly easy-going. But there's a lot more to him than meets the eye. Although he was a hockey player and enjoyed surfing and skateboarding, Matt was self-proclaimed nerd.Now, as a solo artist, Matt is poised to captivate audiences with his endearing personality, melodic sound, and undeniable talent.
