06. Me No Sell ( 3:50)
07. Sticky Cash Girls ( 3:15)
08. Silver Ashes ( 2:35)
09. Shake Shiloh ( 3:29)

Brian Glaze s notoriety as the original drummer in the Brian Jonestown
Massacre is forever eclipsed by his status as a singer/songwriter with his
new LP, Green Living, out July 13 on World Famous In San Francisco. This
best of collection of home recordings makes fora surprisingly cohesive
album with a strong narrative arc

In the past Glaze has collaborated in the studio and on the road with Greg
Ashley of Gris Gris fame, here Brian has constructed every recording by
himself and the result is his most focused effort to date best evidenced in
what proves to be the definitive take on Bad News. This moody atmospheric
demo truly conjures up the feeling that bad news is indeed lurking in the
shadows no matter where you go and is sooner or later bound to turn up. Songs
like Leader of The Band a strange mash-up of classic Elton John la la la s
and Ariel Pink s densely layered production is pure pop with a hip lo-fi
aesthetic. Killing Time recalls shades of Creation Records psychedelic pop
band Revolving Paint Dream while Silver Ashes mines the territory of late
70 s new wave. The last song on the LP, Shake Shiloh, find s Glaze
literally singing Goodbye to the listener. Bringing a true sense of closure
to an intensely personal musical experience. This record proves that the
strength of the song and the highly personal nature of home demo recordings
are tough to improve upon. This is Brian Glaze at his best.

Gather, Form & Fly, is a monument to a band that hundreds have experienced on
stages, under trees, in galleries, on floors, in headphones, and through
radios-with-the-windows-down over the past three years. All the hints they ve
given us --- from songs Stereogum described as mournful, slow-blooming
banjo-and-white-noise-laced epics to tours with The Rosebuds, Arnold
Dreyblatt, and Akron/Family --- have culminated in a record that is an ode to
death, love, musical history (from blues to musique-concr te), community

The dozen songs run through various styles we’ve never heard before from Sarah, taking in jazz, vaudeville and flamenco guitar, always crisp and allowing plenty of space for Sarah’s expressive, playful voice to take command.
The album was released yesterday in Australia. A very limited edition (1000 copies only) of As Day Follows Night features a bonus disc of covers of Sarah’s favourite film soundtrack songs. Each beautifully packaged boxset is signed by Sarah and also includes four “magic ink” reveal cards and paintbrushes. Painting them with water will reveal the colourful artwork.

New York folk band writes stormy songs based on frontman Vincent Cacchione s
nightmares, imagining a kind of bizarro-world Neil Young with less polish and
more paranoia. Listen if you ve ever wondered what it would be like if Edward
Gorey was a songwriter instead of a cartoonist. The loping Ashtray Christ
where Cacchione drawls out dark visions over a galloping beat while a lonely
slide guitar moans occasionally from the shadows

This is the first taster of what Noah and the Whale’s forthcoming album will sound like and, as mentioned in my live review of their London show in March, it’s a clear that a new direction is on the way: darker, brooding, grandiose and… much more serious. The First Days of Spring will be released on 31 August.

14. J. Tillman - Year In The Kingdom (2009) (Indie) (Rapidshare)

1. year in the kingdom
2. crosswinds
3. earthly bodies
4. howling light
5. though i have wronged you
6. age of man
7. there is no good in me
8. marked in the valley
9. light of the living

Year In The Kingdom unravels some kind of galactic wilderness. Tillman's 6th album lyrically borders on mystic; proffering a transdescent union, an effortlessness. Strange and honest, this song cycle inhabits it's own idea-scape; one seemingly obsessed with wrestling death. These are the afterlife dialogues of a mysterious future. Celestial badlands.

Unknown to just about everyone, Tillman started recording in April, tracking most of the instruments during the two week session himself. Hammered dulcimer, banjo, recorder, cymbals of varying size and wheezing air organs all feature heavily and lend YITK it's bizarre scale, conjuring tidal shifts with tiny movements. The string arrangements, performed by Jenna Conrad, as well as transposed from Tillman's sung direction, were intended to rest on chords almost counter-intuitively, bringing to bloom complex, decontextualized tones. Most noticeable upon first listen, however, is the production itself. While most of Tillman's records evidence some shambolic home recording, YITK is undisturbed throughout. Out up front of the mix, and dry as a bone, Tillman's voice is featured in a way unlike any of his previous records.

YITK sounds liberated; it is far and away Tillman's most joyful work. Created with little input or context, it is seemingly disinterested in communicating much else that a meditation for the few who allow themselves to listen with an open heart.

15. Wild Beasts - Two Dancers (2009) (Indie) (Rapidshare,Megaupload)

01. The Fun Powder Plot
02. Hooting & Howling
03. All The King s Men
04. When I m Sleepy &
05. We Still Got The Taste Dancin On Our Tongues
06. Two Dancers (i)
07. Two Dancers (ii)
08. This Is Our Lot
09. Underbelly
10. Empty Nest

Wild Beasts pretty much blew us away when we randomly caught them at the Domino Party during SXSW. So imagine our delight when we caught wind of news that the Leeds quartet were returning with this September with their sophomore album, Two Dancers! Straight from the press release & Co-produced by Wild Beasts and northern English enigma Richard Formby in remote Norfolk, UK earlier this year, Two Dancers finds Wild Beasts on fire. Its a record of tightrope-high drama, alive with its sense of possibility, a sound that shimmers and sways in the band s own mercurial fashion. The band s performances throughout are pure liquid energy. The needlepoint drama is a result of the band eschewing studio hyper-gloss by playing together in the room - recorded live, no over thinking explains Wild Beasts Hayden Thorpe. The sound and sensation of a band, to borrow the lyric of This Is Our Lot, dancing late / like young reprobates . Two Dancers is a streamlined, minimalist, and user-friendly Wild Beasts, with equal grace and gusto, equally elegant and ugly.

Two Dancers is full of references to the following: booty calls, puckered lips, bodies as perfect machines, and dim-lit streets. Lyrically Two Dancers is equally energetic and ripe. In All The King s Men Tom Fleming sings with purposeful intent about Girls from Rodean, girls from Shipley, from Hounslow, girls from Whitby as Thorpe s falsetto soars with palpable anticipation. In this song, as on the whole of the album, Wild Beasts dare you to cut loose and be seduced, but you ll join in on the disorientation along the way.
Wild Beasts have made a record of earthly pleasures that sounds thrillingly widescreen, open and in awe of life; equally intoxicated and disturbed by the possibilities of pleasure. Two Dancers will be released September 8th on Domino Records.

The charismatic 23-year-old songsmith with a compelling raspy vocal style, has crafted her debut album, "Flawz", filled with irresistible, thought-provoking and guitar-driven songs produced by Marshall Altman.

Crosby's first track is the sweet and infectious number "Still Have My Heart," which is also currently available on iTunes. Electro Spectre is the latest contribution to the norwegian electro pop scene, and sets out to leave their distinct mark.Among the band’s most important driving forces is early day electronic music, but tribute is paid to the hole era of pop and rock – in other words, Electro Spectre steals and plunders from anything that is found to be of interest. The outcome is always uncompromisingly their own, and the sound the result of a relentless vision, making use of all today’s possibilities.

The album ‘Watch It All Turn’ has been written and recorded during the last year with Isak Rypdal and Alexander Björneboe in the studio, and consists of twelve tracks presenting a forceful variety of songs, spanning from catchy, danceable to the more dark edged. Words and music forges a sinister universe, yet not without a grinning recklessness – on the whole chasing the ghost of importance,
a pursuit fueled by vintage synthesizers and crying guitars.
