11. Everlasting Everything 4:00
Wilco's seventh disc, Wilco (the album), took shape quickly in January '09 after
the band traveled to Auckland, New Zealand to participate in an Oxfam
International benefit project. The band began cutting tracks for the new album,
producing it themselves with the help of engineer Jim Scott. The sextet
completed the disc at its Chicago studio and performed some of the new material
in April at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival; where the Times-Picayune
praised the band's 'thrilling,
nuanced set.' Wilco (the album) combines the intimacy of its previous studio
disc, Sky Blue Sky (2007), with the experimentation of A Ghost
Is Born (2004) in a set that boasts strong melodies and gorgeous, often
unabashedly pop arrangements. Wilco has clearly laid out the welcome mat to
admirers of all aspects of its career; in fact, the disc opens with 'Wilco (the
song)' originally unveiled in the group's performance on The Colbert Report last
October in which Tweedy & Co. offer their fans 'a sonic shoulder
to cry on,' promising,'Wilco will love you, baby.' Talking to a Rolling Stone
reporter, drummer Glenn Kotche calls it 'a great, upbeat song professing our
love for our fans.' That said, Tweedy's lyrics remain frank and fascinating;
Rolling Stone calls them
'sly, insightful and often heartbreaking.' As with Sky Blue Sky, most of the
tracks are concise in shape; 'Bull Black Nova,' however, features a dramatically
building arrangement and thrilling guitar crescendo, more duel than jam. It's
followed by the gentler 'You and I,' a duet between Tweedy and Canadian singer-
songwriter Feist, and 'You Never Know,' a gloriously anthemic track that is the
album's first single. The disc culminates with 'Everlasting Everything' a
piano-driven ballad with delicate sonic nuances that lyrically celebrates love's
endurance.
6. The Parlotones - A World Next To Yours (2009) (Rock) (Rapidshare)

11. Pointing Fingers 3:39
12. Window Shopper 4:08
13. Disappear Without A Trace 4:30
14. Baby Be Mine 2:46
I was well acquainted with most of The Parlotones new songs after following them
to almost every venue they played in Joburg - so you can understand why I was so
excited to get my hands on a copy of this album. 'A World Next Door To Yours' is
yet another example of South African music being underrated in the international
scene. Due to the reaction of their previous album ‘RadioControlledRobot’, The
Parlotones have been making waves north of the equator, and are generating a new
interest in the ignored talent in this country.
Produced by Cape Town based Theo Crous, the production is of international
standard. It is easy to tell that there has been a lot of work put into this
album, and not only time and skill, but for a Joburg (or according to MySpace,
UK) based band, it's not easy to just pop down to the studio when it is based in
Cape Town. These guys know that playing hard goes hand in hand with working hard
and it has definitely paid off.
The album is captivating and easy to listen to which is vital for testing
further markets. It still has the unmistakable 'Parlotones' sound and style
which put them on the music map in the first place. It’s a great example of a
band being true to themselves while collecting as many people as they can to
join in on the ride.
The word 'soundtrack' keeps popping up when people discuss this album, it even
shows up in one of the songs, but it really is a great way to explain the album
as a whole. The lyrics seem to tell more of a story than before. They are
beautifully poetic and Kahn knows how to take a simple idea or feeling and bring
it to life. The songs on this album are slower and more soulful than before but
there are still the more quirky upbeat songs that keep the album alive.
If all you have heard off this album is 'Giant Mistake' on Highveld while stuck
in the traffic in the mornings, you are in for a surprise when you buy (not
copy) this album. There are so many potential singles throughout that will keep
you more and more interested in what The Parlotones have to offer.

The Goodfight. This one man rock-n-roll band, is also known as Jonathan Rich.
And let me tell you... this artist chose an appropriate moniker to go by.
Emphasized, more so after listening to his most recent release.
The phrase, "To fight the good fight." has religious origins, but generally, it
summons one to keep having faith, believe in it, and then share that good with
others.
So, here I am... with renewed faith and belief in the music of today. Happy
there is still plenty of talent existing out there who have yet to be discovered
among the 'mass-produced-and-manufactured' sounding stuff.
This album is a clear example of that existing talent. And now, I'm glad to do
my part by sharing with you.

17. I Can't Make Up My Mind 3:13
Jangly mersey beat with abundant two part vocal harmonies and background oohs &
aahs. Songs about teenage angst with very catchy melodies. Plenty of
Rickenbacker guitars. This could have been the second Wonders cd after 'That
Thing You Do'.
9. First In Space - This Is Not Here (2009) (Rock) (Rapidshare)
01. Jenny 3:51

09. Last One 3:43
10. In the Water 4:20
11. Leave it All Behind 4:41
12. A7 4:54
First in Space was formed in 2006 by Johnny Stanec and Dolus McCormick. As a
debut the music is polished and professional and makes an excellent impression.
These guys play straight up rock and roll here, "Jenny" opening the album with
strong guitar chords and drumming, but it gets even better as the album plays
on. I took notice of the melodic "Taken For Granted" which remind me of both Tom
Petty and Joe Jackson. The awesome "What You Need" has a Posies flavor to it
that was just catchy and irresistible. The band brings classic rock harmonies
to these tracks that help make them true pop gems. With the longer cuts
"Anything At All" and "I Let You Down" it tends to get more standardized in
sound. But the power pop comes through in the richly detailed "Lock It Away" and
those great builds to a chorus in "Wasted Time" will definitely be appreciated
by music connoisseurs. Other songs have varied influences, "In The Water" and
"Last One" have a slight REM vibe, but the group has a sound that merely
touches these influences without sacrificing any originality. Worth the effort
here, and a new album is already in the works!
10. Davy Knowles & Back Door Slam - Coming Up For Air (2009) (Rock) (Rapidshare)

02. Riverbed 3:38

04. Hear Me Lord 6:03
05. Amber's Song 3:12
06. Tear Down The Walls 5:01
07. You Can't Take This Back 4:52
08. Country Girl 4:28
09. Keep On Searching 5:07
10. Saving Myself 3:11
11. Taste Of Danger (Duet With 4:09
Jonatha Brooke)
"Feels like comin' home." That was your truly's instant reaction upon hearing
Back Door Slam's 2007 debut Roll Away, a blustery slice of blues-based power
trio rawk channeling the collective spirits of Cream, Taste, Blue Cheer, Beck
Bogert & Appice, etc. - stuff I cut my teeth on as a teenaager and still love
dearly. With elements of southern rock creeping into the mix as well - think a
younger version of Gov't Mule - and twin-powered by frontman Davy Knowles'
coal-black vox and uncommonly accomplished fretwork (he was barely into his
twenties), the three-piece from Britain's Isle of Man quickly established itself
as a favorite on the festival and jamband circuits. Meanwhile, sonic catnip for
the aging critics in the crowd was provided by way of concert setlists liberally
stuffed with the classics (for example, hi-octane covers of "Outside Woman
Blues," "Almost Cut My Hair," "Been Down So Long" and a positively Hendrixian
"Red House" - all included, incidentally, on the Live From Bonnaroo album
recently issued by the band's label, Blix Street, on double vinyl LP and
promotional-only CD). Before the year was out, Back Door Slam was making the
rounds of tastemaker radio and the TV talk shows. Not bad for a group that only
made its official public debut in March at SXSW.
Unfortunately, Back Door Slam's ascent proved to be too fast, too soon, and in
2008 the trio dissolved. Knowles, shrewdly, opted to retain the name as he put
together a different incarnation of the band, hiring a new rhythm section,
drafting the Heartbreakers' Benmont Tench for keyboard duties and bringing in
heavy hitters Peter Frampton (production) and Bob Clearmountain (mixing) to up
the commercial ante. Strategizing aside, though, there's nothing shrewd or
calculated about the music on Coming Up For Air - it's every bit as authentic
and thrilling as the material on its predecessor.
In terms of the most overt differences between the two albums, Tench's Hammond
probably stands out the most. While there were keyboards present on Roll Away,
here the organ plays a greater contextual role to subtly steer Back Door Slam
away from its initial power trio aesthetic and towards slinkier, subtler, more
soulful grooves not unlike the way Danny Louis helped evolve latterday Gov't
Mule. This becomes obvious from the get-go with the title cut - an anthemic
slice of midtempo, wah-wah flecked hard rock awash in neopsychedelic colorings -
and later, on a striking gospel-blues cover of George Harrison's "Hear Me Lord,"
which features producer Frampton lending his guitar skills to the arrangement.
Additionally, in the spooky, spectral "Mistakes" Tench sparingly deploys a
Wurlitzer to convey a jazzier, almost noirish vibe; such elegant fleshing out of
the core Back Door Slam sound would suggest that if Tench isn't available for
touring, Knowles would be wise to cast around for a permanent keyboardist.
Fans of the debut won't have any complaints, however. Back Door Slam revisits
its roots on several cuts, notably the kinetic chugger "Tear Down The Walls" and
"Keep On Searching," a brawny, swaggering rocker that brings to mind the late,
great Free (particularly in Knowles' athletic Paul Rodgers-esque vocals) or even
Frampton's old combo Humble Pie. On the latter cut Frampton again contributes
some of his signature electric guitar, and it's a gas to hear him in one speaker
and Knowles in the other as they go mano a mano in a duel of spiraling riffs.
Also familiar to those who own Roll Away: backing vocalist Christine Collister,
who appeared on the 2007 album and is present on a number of tracks here.
(Hailing, like Knowles, from the Isle of Man, Collister is a much-admired
veteran of the British folk/blues/jazz scene, having worked since the ‘80s with
the likes of Richard Thompson and Clive Gregson and additionally releasing a
number of solo records.) Another gifted female songstress guests on Coming Up
For Air as well: Jonatha Brooke, who submits a saucy duet with Knowles on the
album's closing track, "Taste of Danger."
Knowles may claim to be coming up for air on his sophomore effort, given all
that's gone down for him over the past several years, but there's no question
Coming Up For Air is only going to accelerate his career trajectory even
further. Better take a deep, long breath, kid.

When Lady GaGa was a little girl, she would sing along on her mini plastic tape recorder to Michael Jackson and Cyndi Lauper hits and get twirled in the air in daddy's arms to the sounds of the Rolling Stones and the Beatles. The precocious child would dance around the table at fancy Upper West Side restaurants using the breadsticks as a baton. And, she would innocently greet a new babysitter in nothing but her birthday suit.
It's no wonder that little girl from a good Italian New York family, turned into the exhibitionist, multi-talented singer-songwriter with a flair for theatrics that she is today: Lady GaGa.
"I was always an entertainer. I was a ham as a little girl and I'm a ham today," says Lady GaGa, 22, who made a name for herself on the Lower East Side club scene with the infectious dance-pop party song "Beautiful Dirty Rich," and wild, theatrical, and often tongue-in-cheek "shock art" performances where GaGa - who designs and makes many of her stage outfits -- would strip down to her hand-crafted hot pants and bikini top, light cans of hairspray on fire, and strike a pose as a disco ball lowered from the ceiling to the orchestral sounds of A Clockwork Orange.
"I always loved rock and pop and theater. When I discovered Queen and David Bowie is when it really came together for me and I realized I could do all three," says GaGa, who nicked her name from Queen's song "Radio Gaga" and who cites rock star girlfriends, Peggy Bundy, and Donatella Versace as her fashion icons. "I look at those artists as icons in art. It's not just about the music. It's about the performance, the attitude, the look; it's everything. And, that is where I live as an artist and that is what I want to accomplish."
That goal might seem lofty, but consider the artist: GaGa is the girl who at age 4 learned piano by ear. By age 13, she had written her first piano ballad. At 14, she played open mike nights at clubs such as New York's the Bitter End by night and was teased for her quirky, eccentric style by her Convent of the Sacred Heart School (the Manhattan private school Nicky and Paris Hilton attended) classmates by day. At age 17, she became was one of 20 kids in the world to get early admission to Tisch School of the Arts at NYU. Signed by her 20th birthday and writing songs for other artists (such as the Pussycat Dolls, and has been asked to write for a series of Interscope artists) before her debut album was even released, Lady GaGa has earned the right to reach for the sky.

As they begin work on their fifth full-length studio album (due for release later this year), RIAA platinum Island Records group Sum 41 takes time out to assess their career so far on ALL THE GOOD SHIT: THE BEST OF SUM 41 . The newly-compiled album, first issued November 2008 in Japan (Sum 41's biggest international territory outside their native Canada and the U.S.), will arrive in the North American physical and digital marketplace on March 17th. The collection also offers a bonus dvd featuring the band's eclectic videos over the course of their career
This marks Sum 41's first collection, 14-songs and 13 videos that draw from their debut mini-album Half Hour Of Power (2000), and their four full-length albums, All Killer No Filler (2001), Does This Look Infected? (2002), Chuck (2004), and Underclass Hero (2007). Also featured on ALL THE GOOD SHIT is a live version of "Hell Song."
ALL THE GOOD SHIT is Sum 41's first new release since Underclass Hero, which debuted at #1 (and earned instant gold certification) in Canada and Japan - where it ousted fellow Island band Bon Jovi's Lost Highway from the top in Japan after a one month run at #1. Underclass Hero was self-produced (for the first time) by the band's own Deryck Whibley, who wrote and produced tracks for (his wife) Avril Lavigne's then-current album, The Best Damn Thing.
Underclass Hero was Sum 41's long awaited follow-up to Chuck (October 2004), #10 on the Billboard 200 with more than 1 million copies sold worldwide. The album was named for the United Nations worker who daringly rescued Sum 41 from bombs and gunfire during the filming of a documentary in the Congo with the nonprofit group War Child Canada.
