10. Again From The Start
11. Everything'll Be Alright
12. Flowers On Your Grave
Rising Canadian star Catherine McLellan leaps forward with her country-folk-pop template. Good move.
To my ears, some of MacLellan's sound owes much to Scottish band Fairground Attraction, though she's not in the same league, as a singer, as their ex-vocalist, the brilliant Eddi Reader. She has a very sweet voice, however, which is very versatile.
Third album Water In The Ground is a very good listen indeed, (nice dare I say it, too) full of warm and engaging songs which melt into each other, and some might even melt you, if you’re a true romantic. Unfortunately, in pure commercial terms, there isn't a Perfect or Find My Love to rush in a serious pop element and give the album a radio-friendly leg-up, though much of the material is easy listening to the extent she hasn't sold out, retaining a clever rootsy-fusion-crossover feel at almost every level.
There are only three songs of notable pace, opener - jazzed-up country shuffle (a la Fairground Attraction) Take a Break, about slogging in the field next to a lover, track 2 Water In The Ground a gorgeous song about a wander lusting young girl hoping her 'mate' will be waiting for her return, and country-twister Not Much To Do, all of which are very catchy, guaranteed to get yer feet a tappin'.
But, it's the others, steeped in deeper Americana tradition like jolly Hotel Stairs (something compatriot KD Lang might have tackled in the her early days) driven by sublime basslines by Kyle Cunjak and country-styled guitar solos courtesy one Nick Cobham, that hit the bulls-eye.
Another, which allows her dulcet tones to feature prominently, is the stunning ballad Isabel’s Song, one of the sweetest and simplest love songs you'll ever find, with lines like, "there's no going back after you, love," slipping beautifully from her country lilt.
Acoustic ballad All Those Years deals with a wandering couple who romanticise (but don't regret leaving) previous homes, while Set This Heart On Fire does exactly what is says on the tin, in an understated way, to a subdued shuffle.
Plucking banjo and acoustic guitar carry Again From The Heart, enveloped by lightweight bass and percussion, making it one of the best tracks here, purely for its simplicity and stripped back quality.
If you want to hear one of the most heartbreaking songs ever, then its here as the final song, Flowers On Your Grave, lump in throat no doubt.
Water In The Ground is accompanied by her debut album Dark Dream Midnight, previously only available by mail order. The verdict : Nearly perfect by Elly Roberts allgigs

M.C. Records is proud to announce that it has signed the youngest Neville brother, Cyril Neville to a record deal. "Brand New Blues" (MC-0064) marks his first release in eight years and hits stores April 7 in the United States and Canada. Dixiefrog Records will handle the release in Europe with a May 7 street date.
"Brand New Blues" contains mostly original material written or co-written by Cyril with the perspective of an outspoken Human Rights advocate. The new release is musical gumbo of a lifetime of musical influences & passions; blues, funk and soul. Brian J of Pimps of Joytime took care of the production chores and played most of the instruments. Family and friends gathered to help Cyril achieve his vision of "Brand New Blues" including Art Neville (Organ & Vocals) Ivan Neville (Organ), Ian Neville (Guitar), Tab Benoit (Guitar), Waylon Thibodeaux (Washboard) and Jumpin' Johnny Sansone on harmonica The sessions were recorded in Brooklyn NY, Austin TX, Houma LA & New Orleans LA.
Cyril began singing professionally at 19 in 1967 and released his first single in 1970. He was the vocalist and played congas with the influential and successful band The Meters and contributed to two releases and a tour with the Rolling Stones. In addition to his work with the Neville Brothers, Cyril has formed other bands over the years, including the Endangered Species Band in 1983 and the Uptown All-stars Band, while he also found time to launch his own record label, Endangered Species. Cyril also founded the New Orleans Musicians Organized (NOMO), which helps musicians who need business advice with their careers. Cyril Neville has issued several solo albums on his own over the years, including 1995's "The Fire This Time", and a pair in 2000, "New Orleans Cookin'" and "Soulo." Plus he has guested on various other artist's recordings over the years, including albums by Edie Brickell, Jimmy Buffett, Dr. John, Bob Dylan, Daniel Lanois, Willie Nelson, Tab Benoit, and Big Chief Monk Boudreaux among others.
17. Levon Helm - Electric Dirt (2009) (Rock) (Rapidshare)
Not that anyone's keeping score, but as Band alumni records go, Levon is pulling way ahead of the pack with his second keeper in as many tries in the '00s. ELECTRIC DIRT finds the Arkansas legend building on its critically acclaimed predecessor, ... Full DescriptionDIRT FARMER, and bringing the democratic ebullience of his weekly Midnight Ramble live sessions (held in his barn) to record. Ramble stalwarts Larry Campbell and Amy Helm (Levon's daughter) appear all over the album (Campbell as producer and multi-instrumentalist; Amy Helm providing genetically in tune harmonies), while a loose, New Orleans vibe pervades courtesy of Allen Toussaint's horn arrangements (covers of the Grateful Dead's "Tennessee Jed", Randy Newman's "Kingfish" and other album standouts). The album, naturally, belongs to Helm, who is in stunningly assured vocal form (remarkable for a throat cancer survivor) and whose slack rustic groove remains irresistible (who else can make a mandolin sound like funk instrument). Helm--never considered one of the Band's chief songwriters--reveals his songcraft chops with ELECTRIC DIRT'S emotional centerpiece, "Growing Trade," an instant classic co-written with Campbell that rates with the Band's best.

With Mott the Hoople, guitarist/vocalist Ian Hunter established himself
as one of the toughest and most inventive hard rock songwriters of the
early '70s, setting the stage for punk rock with his edgy, intelligent
songs. As a solo artist, Hunter never attained the commercial heights of
Mott the Hoople, but he cultivated a dedicated cult following.
Hunter was born in Owestry, Shropshire, but was raised in cities
throughout England since his father worked in the British Intelligence
agency called MI5 and had to move frequently. Eventually, the family
returned to Shrewsbury, where the teenaged Hunter joined a band called
Silence in the early '60s. Silence released an album, but it received no
attention. In the years following Silence, Hunter played in a handful of
local bands and worked a variety of jobs.
In 1968, Hunter began playing bass with Freddie "Fingers" Lee and the
duo played around Germany. Shortly afterward, Hunter became the vocalist
for Mott the Hoople. During the next six years, Hunter sang and played
piano and guitar with the band, becoming its lead songwriter within a
few albums. Although few of their records sold, Mott the Hoople was one
of the most popular live bands in England. In 1972, David Bowie produced
their breakthrough album, All the Young Dudes, which brought the band
into the British Top Ten and the American Top 40. For the next two
years, the group had a consistent stream of hits in both the U.K. and
the U.S.
Toward the end of 1973, the band began to fall apart, as founding member
and lead guitarist Mick Ralphs left the band. Hunter carried on through
another album, but he left the group in late 1974, taking along former
Bowie guitarist Mick Ronson, who had just joined Mott. Just prior to
leaving the group, Hunter published Diary of a Rock Star, an account of
his years leading Mott the Hoople, in June 1974.
Hunter moved to New York, where he and Ronson began working on his solo
debut. Released in 1975, Ian Hunter spawned "Once Bitten, Twice Shy," a
Top 20 U.K. hit. Following its release, Hunter and Ronson embarked on a
tour. After its completion, the pair parted ways, although they would
reunite later in the '80s. All-American Alien Boy, Hunter's second solo
album, was recorded with a variety of all-star and session musicians,
including members of Queen. Released in the summer of 1976, All-American
Alien Boy was a commercial failure. It was followed in 1977 by Overnight
Angels, an album that saw Hunter moving closer to straightforward rock &
roll; disappointed with the completed album, Hunter decided to leave the
album unreleased in America.
Following the mainstream approach of Overnight Angels, Hunter became
involved with England's burgeoning punk rock movement, producing
Generation X's second album, 1979's Beyond the Valley of the Dolls. For
Hunter's next solo album, he reunited with Mick Ronson, who produced and
arranged 1979's You're Never Alone with a Schizophrenic. The album was a
hit, especially in America, where it peaked at number 35. Hunter and
Ronson set out on another tour, which resulted in the 1980 double live
album, Ian Hunter Live/Welcome to the Club. In 1981, Hunter released
Short Back N' Sides, which was produced by the Clash's Mick Jones.
Two years later, he released All of the Good Ones Are Taken. After its
release, Ian Hunter became a recluse, spending the next six years in
silence; occasionally, he contributed a song to a movie soundtrack. In
1989, Hunter resumed recording, releasing YUI Orta with Ronson. After
its release, Hunter remained quiet during the '90s, appearing only on
Ronson's posthumous 1994 album Heaven and Hull and at tribute concerts
for Ronson in 1994 and Freddie Mercury in 1992. Hunter returned to
recording with Artful Dodger, which was released in Britain and Europe
in the spring of 1997. After a Columbia/Legacy compilation titled Once
Bitten Twice Shy offered a wealth of Ian Hunter solo titles in the year
2000, much attention was paid to 2001's fine Rant. In 2002, Hunter
performed a pair of semi-acoustic concerts in Oslo, Norway, which were
recorded for later release on CD and home video; the resulting project,
called Strings Attached, included some new songs, including "Twisted
Steel," inspired by the events of September 11, 2001. Shrunken Heads, a
collection of all-new material, was released in 2007 on the Yep Roc

Now blessed with a proper producer in the shape ofAndy Gray (Korn, U2, Tori Amos), their genre-bending mashupluxuriates in beefy, crystal-clear sound, benefiting enormously as a result. Includes the single 'Juggernauts' and the free download 'Antwerpen'.
