KUANTAN : A road accident led police to the discovery of a pistol and several rounds of ammunitions from three men near Padang Tengku, Lipis last Thursday.
State deputy CID chief Supt Mohd Haris Daud said the three suspects, aged 20, 21 and 29, were immediately detained during the 10.15am incident along KM56 of the Lipis-Merapoh road.
“The men, said to be businessmen, were on their way to Kuala Lumpur from Kota Baru. However, they met with an accident when their Mercedes Benz collided with a crane.
“As a result, they suffered minor injuries,” he said, adding that police found a live bullet in the front passenger seat and cash amounting to RM13,827.
Supt Mohd Haris said that police, suspecting something amiss, proceeded to search the entire car and found another round at the back seat.
He said reinforcement was called in and they later found a Glock semi-automatic pistol and several rounds of ammunition in a magazine near some bushes.
“The three suspects will be investigated under the Firearms Act 1960,” he said, adding that police were in the midst of ascertaining whether they had a valid firearms licence.
In a separate case, Supt Mohd Haris said police shot a suspected criminal in the stomach after he resisted arrest at a bus station in Felda Chini, Pekan at about 5.45pm last Thursday.
He said during the struggle to free himself, the suspect was accidentally shot by a policeman when he tried to snatch his service revolver.
“Checks showed the suspect, aged 31, who was banished to Perlis under restricted residence had eight previous convictions including thefts and house break-ins.
“He was rushed to the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital and is in a stable condition,” he said.
