Madrid A-E

Drahi Nashi,

Still full of Madrid impressions we tried to write our report. But we just can't because we can't grasp it. And how could we - just 5 days (and one and a half of it was spent in Monfrague, but that is another story). Aristotle says that a story has to have a beginning, a middle and an end, and since we can't decide what is what we've chosen an encyclopedic approach. From A to Ž (Croatian alphabet).

Atocha
Tropski vrt usrid željezničke stanice! Što više reć?

A tropical garden in the middle of a train station. What more to say?

Balkoni/balconies
U starem dilu Madrida umisto punistri kuće imaju balkone.

Umrem li,
ostavite balkon otvoren.

Dijete naranče jede.
(Vidim sa svog balkona)

Kosac žito kosi.
(Čujem sa svog balkona.)

Umrem li,
ostavite balkon otvoren!

In the old part of Madrid houses have balconies instead of windows. And balconies reminded us of Lorca.

Farewell

If I die,
leave the balcony open.

The child is eating oranges.
(From my balcony I see him.)

The harvester scythes the wheat.
(From my balcony I hear him.)

If I die,
leave the balcony open!

Evo i original.

Despedida

Si muero,
dejad el balcón abierto.

El nińo come naranjas.
(Desde mi balcón lo veo).

El segador siega el trigo.
(Desde mi balcón lo siento).

ˇSi muero,
dejad el balcón abierto!

Bazen/Pool

It is usual in Spain that a house or a residential building has a pool. Residential buildings are built in so call urbanisations (urbanización) – small neighbourhoods with pool, park, sometimes a tennis court etc. This is the pool of the building we stayed at. Actually, there are two, the left one is the shallow one for children, the right one is deep. How good it felt to jump into the pool after whole day of walking around the city. Of course, it is not Prižba, but it isn't bad.

Ben&Jerry's
Odma smo Mulata i Min mrknuli svaka svoga.

Yummie, an American ice-cream brand we enjoyed in the Neverlands came to Spain too. All greasy and dense and delicious this is the kind of ice-cream girls in the films eat after break-ups. We like the copy on the ad: Your grandma would give it to you if she could pronounce it.

Our guide says that a typical Spanish breakfast consists of café con leche (cofee with milk) and churros (a fried-dough pastry-based snack). So this is our café con leche and a churro.

Egipatski hram/Egyptian temple

You must be thinking: where the hell are Daleky? But no, we haven’t teleported ourselves to Egypt. Here we are, in the middle of Madrid!
What happened: Egyptian government gave this temple to Spain to thank it for the help during the building of the Aswan dam. The temple is great and is located in the park on a little hill and there is beautifull view on Madrid from there. Those of you who want to know more should click (click, click, click)

Engleski jezik/English language

In general, Spanish people speak very little of English. Just like Italians, that is because of the dubbing. Actually, all the nice people we met there spoke English, but those that should speak it (the guards at Prado, the shop assistants at the airport, the receptionist in the hotel) weren’t very good. Thanksgod for the Italian language and the gesticulation.
