Some say that the 1939 Best Actor Oscar was the biggest let down in Oscar history. Clark Gable who played the infamous role of Rhett Butler in Gone With the Wind was a sure winner. GWTW had won almost every other Oscar that it had been nominated for, but when the envelope was opened and the winner was announced it was Robert Donat Goodbye, Mr. Chips that walked away with the award, not Clark Gable.
