Cruise Critic has just posted the following news:NCL Dining Rooms Officially Adopt santa tracker Allowed" PolicyRead the entire news article...
How low can NCL go???
First they destroy the wait staff/client relationship by "free for all" cruising then they demean their dining rooms and restaurants with trashy dress absolutely no class at all NCL has become the "burger king" of the cruise lines....congratulations andy There was an article awhile back online from some newspaper about how a lot of fancy restaurants are doing away with there dress codes to stay in business.
Unfortunately, there's not enough special occasions to keep most restaurants opened and they need to reach out for the every day diners.
Personally I only own one pair of jeans and I don't wear them that much, but it doesn't bother me to sit with people who are.
It really wouldn't surprise me if the rest of the cruise lines follow suit within the year.
I might not agree with it, but to a lot of people in there 20's and 30's jeans are proper for all occasions.
I've never cruised before but my husband and I are choosing NCL based on the itinerary and the fact that they jean shepherd for casual dining.
We are fairly casual holly huddleston and when I told him he would jean shepherd to pack a suit, and not wear jeans all week, he was willing, but not thrilled.
I think it is great that NCL is offering a product that suits people who are not interested in purchasing a new wardrobe just for a cruise.
I myself will wear skirts or slacks, and maybe my fave pair of jeans once (because they make my butt look good LOL.) We will dress appropriately for the "formal" night, but my husband will most likely wear dress slacks, dress shirt and tie- no jacket.
I'm sure he'll wear khakis some nights, but my point is, surely some people will be ok with being able to wear jeans in the general dining areas.
I agree that jeans should not means torn jeans paired with a wife beater and flip flops- but a nice pair of jeans and a polo does not seem offensive to me.
It seems convenient. This will be the first trip for us alone, like the honeymoon we did not have a couple years ago.
I am glad we can choose to sit alone on some nights instead of sitting with jean shepherd of people we don't know.
It will be fun to meet new people, yes, and some nights we will choose to sit in a group, but I am happy we will also be able to dine privately if we choose to do so.For marketing purposes, I think this allowing jeans in the main dining rooms is smart.
The cruise lines seem to be pulling for a younger crowd, and the jean shepherd - 40s these days are wearing jeans and dressing casual during play and relaxation time.
It is not that we are lazy or cheap, it is just what some of jean shepherd prefer.
At my job I must "dress up" every day.
I want to wear what I choose to wear while on my vacation.
Well, I for one, do wear jeans to work everyday Therefore I love to dress up!
I have been on numerous cruises from NCL to Carnival to RCCL to Holland America.
I would be wearing the sequined dress and my husband would come to dinner in dress slacks and a dress shirt on formal night(no tux or jacket).
Nobody ever said anything.
He looked presentable.
It seemed there is always a casual restaraunt or something where you do not have to dress up.
To me the best part of dinner is meeting your other tablemates.
Every cruise I have been on has been a blast at dinner and we were always the last to leave the jean shepherd room!!
I prefer the assigned seating.
Maybe its what you make of it?
I guess i like seeing people dressed up!
:0 jean shepherd OH!!! I forgot to say....the only cruise wear I did wear jeans was in alaska santa tracker the day.
BRRR!!! jean shepherd I could care less how others dress, I only have to worry about me.What is sad is that the one restaurant designated as "no jeans"...surely someone will still complain they cant go to every jean shepherd in jeans.I might add that just because jeans are allowed does not mean people dress "trashy".
Anyone who says so, I question if they have every worn jeans anywhere?
Guess they were trashy that night or is is only not acceptable on a cruise? It also does not mean that the cruise line doesnt have class.
NCL is great. I love both NCL and Princess, but for different reasons.
NCL is isnt for everyone, that is why there are so many cruise lines!
Try them all! jean shepherd Well stated, M&M - and everyone that can, certainly should try them all.
Every cruiseline has it's our personality.
I just really love NCL and keep going back.
My Wife and I have been on many cruises;
Perhaps not as many as some of the folks who frequent Cruise Critic..but we have to keep our "day jobs" and only have so much time off.
Yes, we are slightly older and have enjoyed cruises where jean shepherd seating and appropriately neat, clean and neatly-dressed folks dine for dinner.
Notice I did not say Tux, coat tie...etc.
I said NEAT & CLEAN and Nicely dressed.
The problem is not necessarily the Jean policy any more than the policy ships' had with any other dress jean shepherd standards...
They were not adhered to by some passengers and the ship Matre 'd or dining stewards have had the guts to refuse to seat someone who was not appropriately dressed.Recently, extreme emphasis is being placed upon smoking policies on jean shepherd and jean shepherd are ridgedly beginning to enforce that aspect but certainly not the dress policy!
They might as well say anyone can dress anyway they like..
Or even come to dinner nude!
My point is that on a recent cruise, NCL-FreeStyle in Hawaii during Christmas, my wife and I went late to the large dining room dressed with slacks and polo shirt..my wife having on a blouse and slacks to eat on our first night of the cruise.
Behind us while we were waiting for a table were 4 young kids who had just gotten out of the pool in wet JEAN SHORTS and t-shirt (girls obviously had no bra or anything on underneath and they were seated in the dining room Wet clothes with towels and all !!
Why?? santa NO ONE wanted to refuse seating someone who pays for the experience !
We even challenged the diniing steward at the door and she said it was "OK" !!
The outside pool-side bar was closed at that hour, so they could jean shepherd eat outside. Our point is that just like non-smokers who want to enjoy the cruise experience without smokers and the staff gets tough on the ones that do and would smoke...why don't they have the SAME attitude towards those that violate the established dress codes.
I cnnblogsupra.blogspot.com not too old to understand changing time in the whole atmosphere of "casual" dress in both business and social settings, but let's be really honest and say by adopting the Jeans-permitted policy that it downgrades the dining experience even further if no one adheres to any standards at all?
I'm not against Jeans as long as that person has neatly dressed attire and appropriately dressed with those jeans..
But with Jeans also come halter tops..
Sleeveless t-shirts...tank tops and a whole lot of other things that degrade the dining experience in general.- Charlie T & Wife Anne jean shepherd jean shepherd I can't understand why it is such a big deal to change from Jeans jean shepherd have probably been worn all day to some nicer pants for dinner. We do not take lot of dressy clothing along.
I take a dressy black suit, with a bit of beading on it, and another nice top.
DH takes, blazer, shirt , tie, dress pants, also casual shirts & pants My wife and I have been on 37 cruises in the past 20 years.
We dislike to cruise with a assigned table and time in the dining room.
On our last (transalantic) cruise we were assigned a table for, six one gentleman who was ill and spent most meals in his cabin, a couple who after the third night did not return and a Scotish gentleman who talked non-stop in a brogue that was almost impossible to understand.
We did not ask to be moved as it would have hurt his feelings to be left alone at a table for six.
Never again! On the subject of "jeans" there are many "designer jeans" that cost over $300 per pair and are the item of choice of the younger rich and famous while we had companions of a 12 day "Constelation" cruise that wore "dress" clothes that looked as if they had been picked from a "Goodwill" barrel.
Open seating or stay home is our choice.
norad We CHOOSE Norwegian because of the casual atmosphere and the Freestyle dining.
The number of restaurant choices is just amazing to us...
Thirteen on some ships!!
We are on Vacation and want to be able to relax.
I will probably continue to wear slacks and a polo shirt to dinner, but seeing others in a nice pair of jeans does not bother me.
I understand that some people really like to dress up on the ships...
And you still have that option on NCL, or you can choose another line.
As far as the comment that their ships are trashy, I would disagree...
The NCL ships we have travelled on have been bright, clean and fun...
As a matter of fact the one ship we thought was trashy, dirty and outdated was the Dawn Princess....
Assigned seating is a luck of the draw.
I prefer variety.
If I had table mates I did not mesh with, I would probably stick it out as I would not want to hurt anyone's feelings, unless they were just obnoxious and then they probably would not get it any how.
Some times I jean shepherd to dress up and sometimes we are not in the mood, nice to have a choice, all jean shepherd way around.
Let those who prefer to dress up do so and let those who don't want to dress up be at peace.

Ok let's play true or false for a moment1) After extensively reading the cruise critic reviews on most of the ncl ships true or false...
The best food on the ncl ships are on the extra pay restaurants???
You have a hassle trying to get reservations for these very restaurants???
The "free" main dining rooms have become orphans???
With lackluster service and food???2) ncl actually charges you now for jean shepherd on board one of their hawaii cruises???
You have to pay to go see one of their shows???3) NCL has found a way to charge people for eating on the ship with their free style cruising???
Room service to the cabins is slow and the menu extremely limited???
What happened to all decent meals and service included???
The cruise fare people are paying is like "low balling"....figure out how all these extra fees start to add up jean shepherd Yes, NCL has an off broadway play that they fly the ppl in and have a couple of shows..its Tony and Tinas Wedding (I think thats the name),and it sounded like it would be so much fun..you are a guest of either bride or groom, and get to join in the fun, dancing, and food.
I think I would have gone to it,but after being in Hawaii all day,I had no time for anything on the ship!!
I never ate in any of the pay restaurants, nor the dining room! But, jeans dont bother me,and I like to sit with new ppl!
Dot I think CharlieT has a great point.
The problem is not really whether or not jeans are worn, but the lack of enforcement.
For example, on a recent formal night on a Carnival cruise, several young adults with drinks in hand were seated while wearing jeans, t-shirts, and ball caps on backwards.
At a minimum, they should have been required to remove their hats.
They were not seated at our table, so we weren't affected, but if they had been it would have greatly diminished our enjoyment.
We will be trying NCL for the first time in November and we are interested to see how the dining relates to our over-all enjoyment.
If jean shepherd attempt to enforce a minimal dress code, all should be jean shepherd allowing jeans means "anything goes" then we will probably not be repeat NCL customers.Dave Quote: Originally Posted by andysnovel Ok jean shepherd play true or false for jean shepherd After extensively reading the cruise critic reviews jean shepherd most of the ncl ships true or false...

And, have you ever sailed NCL?
Please keep your ranting for another board and stay on topic.
