HowardForums: Your Mobile Phone Community & Resource - HSDPA Phones that work with Rogers?

Hey, so I am looking to get a new phone.

Originally roger clemens website thinking of getting the N75, but it looks like it could be a few years until cingular releases new fw for it which includes a2dp...Anyways, I thought getting a hsdpa phone might be a good idea.

From what I understand, HSDPA will work on rogers through either the 850 or 1900 band.

This seems to narrow the choice of phones greatly.

Is there a list anywhere of which phones fall into this category, or does someone know offhand? So far I have found the Samsung Sync and the HTC TyTn.

Does anyone know of any others?

A2DP is a must for me, and I would like one with a screen that's at least 2in big...

But just a list of rogers compatible hsdpa phones would be awesome. Thanks!

I'd go with TyTN.Got it 2 months ago and still like it pollsfavorcnn.blogspot.com
HTC P3600 Trinity works just fine, data download clocked at 981 kbit/s.

The Samsung Blackjack should work as well.

If you can wait...maybe the sony ericsson k850?

Im definetly going to pick that phone up when it comes to canada
HTC cavalier (S630) also roger clemens website
I really have tried hard to find this out.

UMTS (3G) HSDPA (?3.5G), 2100Mhz 1900Mhz and Edge.

These are all fairly confusing roger clemens website and tecnologies, What are we using here, what frequency, which systems are cross comapatible?

My phone, diggmysharp.blogspot.com has only UMTS speeds which I think is only available in Europe.

However on a recent trip to Montanna, my 3G indicator came on.

Go figure? I cannot find out if and when HSDPA rolls out across Canada, will I get UMTS speeds.

Its so difficult to find this out, its probably been discussed here but not exactly what I want and dare I ask?

And yes I have pored over the Wiki Links, I understand a little more but am still puzzeled.

I need help!
Canada and the US use 850 and 1900 MHz for UMTS/HSDPA.Some phones that support those bands areSamsungA707/A706A717A727Sony EricssonZ750K850If it just says "UMTS", then it's just UMTS 2100 and it won't work here.

It needs to specifically say UMTS 850/1900 (or HSDPA 850/1900).You're pretty much limited to phones aimed at the American (or Australian) market.

Though the Australian phones will sometimes have UMTS 850 but not GSM 850 (like the V6 RAZR).

A quick recheck on the E61is specs confirm that it UMTS 2100, this was all the more reason why I became confused (and marginally excited) when for the first time I saw the 3G indicator light up whilst roaming in Montana (of all places).

I have no explanation for that?

N95 does support this doesnt it?

In fact, all the phones listed in your profile won't let you use 3.5G in Canada.

I see, well not roger clemens website it matters anyways because Rogers ridiculously overprices their data services roger clemens website
If i ordered a nokia e90 ,will i have any trouble if i amconnected through the rogers network ???

Or should the phone run fine here in canada ?

I just picked up an unlocked E90 from Bongowirelesss last Wednesday, and it's working great on Rogers here in Toronto.

No HSDPA support due to the different frequencies, but with Rogers data rates, I can use the reminder to go find a WiFi hotspot instead of emptying my wallet.EDGE is also zippier than it was on my E62 (since the underlying phone is faster), and generally fast enough for when I'm on the go.Obviously there are a whole bunch of features on the E90 that won't work on the Rogers network, but that's because Rogers simply doesn't provide them (in other words, the phone has features that you won't be able to take advantage of, like video calling and PTT).

Apparently some people have been able to get brief moments of 3G appearing on their UMTS 2100 phones here in North America.

There's been speculation that this is because we run UMTS on 1900 here and that overlaps with the UMTS onlyfavoruk.blogspot.com spectrum partially.

Rogers doesn't have video calling?

What happened to my "vision plan?"Quote: Originally Posted by jhollington I just picked up an unlocked E90 from Bongowirelesss last Wednesday, and it's working great on Rogers here in Toronto.
