StarDestroyer.Net BBS :: View topic - An Analysis of Wizarding (HP) Combat strategies

Has anyone done this?

I've done som searches but found no tactical analysis on the board so I thought I'd start a thread of one, now that all the books are out and the 'final battle' whereblurpolls.easyjournal.com been waged. One of the cheif things I've notices is the propensity for 'pairing off', for a larger group to break off into small groups of two or three or simply duel individually with other wizards. The use of other 'units' than Wizards was extemly rare, but surprisingly effective in the instances shown. The fact that the Ministry takeover was subtle rather than an open conflict, I think, speaks greatly of their general wartime tactics. But I'm not really a tactics expert, nor an wizard of oz suicide in HP.Have at it, those who know better than I!

Or at least put on links to the places where it's discussed.ISARMA: Daikaiju Coordinator: Just Add RadiationJustice League- Molly Hayes: Respect the Pink Bunny Hats or Freakin' Else!Browncoat - We've done the impossible. When writing crossovers, whynonnow.blogspot.com of oz suicide human sacrifices to Yog-Sothoth are required.

Have YOU paid up?Reviewing movies is a lot like Paleontology: The Evidence is there...but no one seems to agree upon it. peter fonda
HP seems rather like Star Trek in that there’s lots of very powerful technology/magic available but hardly anyone with any intelligence in the universe seems to given much thought to how best to use it, either in combat or just in general.
I never really saw any conventional combat strategies in the books.

Both the Death Eaters and the Order of the Phoenix seemed to use small man skirmishing tactics.

The Wizarding World just isn't big enough to support anything larger then their version of street gangs.Into the hole again, we hurried along our way, into a once-glorious garden now seeped in dark decay.
Well did anyone else find it ridiculous that at the end of HP 7, the great hall was full of wizards, all carrying wands, house elves, and centaurs, and only three people each dueled bellatrix and voldemort?

Well, wizard dueling isn't exactly wrestling, so there would be room between the two.

Enough for at least a few others to have angles on Voldemort.

wizard of oz suicide True, but as you point out the hall was full of friendlies (some of them children), so if the spell misses or if it's reflected then it becomes a risk.Ph34r teh eyebrow!!11!Writers Guild Sluggite Pawn of Chaos WYGIWYGAINGW so now i have to put ACPATHNTDWATGODW in my sig EBC-Honorary GeordieHammerman!

wizard of oz suicide wizard of oz suicide IIRC, only combatants were left at this point, and I doubt anyone is going to just watch comrades duel with the very real chance of dieing without helping.

Gain of killing Voldemort quicker outweighs chance of missed reflectrd spells.
As I recall, there was something pretty close to parity between forces for most of the battle, so anyone turning their full attention on Voldemort would have a very high chance of being zapped by a random Deatheater eager to curry favor...

So only a wizard of oz suicide of very capable wizards were able to do so.
wizard of oz suicide Not the first engagement, the period where all the death eaters had been killed and it was only Voldemort and Bellatrix left.
