Gateshead – Whitby 1 (1.80 @Primebet) 8/10
Odds are dropping as fast as they can on Gateshead and I understand why. If you ask me, realistic odds would be 1.50 max on Gateshead win so this is another bet I simply have to take. Gateshead are one of the title candidates this season. Their manager brought in a bunch of talented and experienced players (thanx to significant financial input from chairman Graham Wood) – some of them are strikers Armstrong from Dunston (84 goals in three seasons) and Robson from Consett (128 goals in 176 starts for Whickham), praised midfielder Bowey from York and former Newcastle United duo McClean and Cave. Gateshead now has 13 Unibond Premier wins in a row (if we count last season's run too) and in the 1st round of the new season they won 3:1 at newly promoted Eastwood. Eastwood, btw, isn't a bad team at all, they're maybe new in the Unibond Premier but in the 2nd round showed their strength to Worksop Town (2:1 away win).
Whitby managed to get a point out of their first home match of the season (1:1 at home against also newly promoted Buxton outfit that lost at home to Hednesford 0:2 in the 2nd round) but if their opponents were a better and a more experienced side, they would have a much harder time. Most of Whitby's supporters were predicting a defeat (some of them even 0:5, 0:4, 1:4...) or a draw against Buxton (at home, against newly promoted club, in the 1st match of the season!) and it's the same before this match (and now they're playing away against title candidates) – that's what they think about their current squad. Whitby failed to win a single pre-season match (some really lousy teams managed to beat them) and have some problems with injuries and suspensions too - Brunskill (one of their most important players) is out due to suspension (just like in the 1st round) and Lyth and Drinkall are still not fit. That's why this is going to be my first 8/10 bet of the season.
FT 2:1
