Wimbledon – Ramsgate 1 (1.67 @StanJames, Paddy Power) 7/10
Wimbledon almost qualified for Blue Square South last season and this season they are really going for it. They are the richest club in Ryman Premier league (two or three thousand viewers are normal for them and just a dream for other Ryman clubs) and now they have a new manager, highly experienced Terry Brown who kept all the best from last season's Wimbledon roster (including all four standard defenders) and brought in a bunch of highly experienced players (ex-Jamaican international Gayle who played for Rangers and Watford, scorer Webb who played in Champions League qualification this summer for Marsaxlokk from Malta, midfielders Hatton from Stevenage, Quinn from Ebbsfleet, Warner from Staines, Beckford from Lewes and Leberl from Dagenham, winger Finn who was a target of many Blue Square Premier outfits, defenders Salmon and Goodliffe).
Ramsgate will probably end this season mid-table again because of lack of funds for something bigger. Ramsgate manager brought in a couple of new players (defenders Davis from Fisher and Vallance from Dover, striker Holden...) and re-signed a couple of old Ramsgate players, but that's just not enough against high-flyers like Wimbledon. Even if Wimbledon's opponent in this 1st round were some better team, I'd still bet on Wimbledon.

Hyde is one of the 5 teams in Blue Square North with maximum 6 points after two rounds. After winning away at Worcester 2:0 and a sensational home win against Vauxhall (0:3 HT, 6:3 FT), now they're playing home again, against ex-Blue Square Premier club Tamworth who were great in the first round against Burscough (4:2) but shockingly lousy away at Redditch (1:3). We could see a lot of goals in this match – Hyde are one of the biggest promotion candidates this season (brough in a bunch of experienced former professionals in pre-season, just like Tamworth) and Tamworth (after that dissapointment in the 2nd round) should really go for it in this match if they want to make their fans happy. I expect a lot of goals, I think Tamworth should score at least once or twice and Hyde will try, and I think manage, to score at least a goal more than their opponents. All of Hyde's pre-season home matches produced a lot of goals too (Manchester City reserves 4:2, Stalybridge Celtic 3:2, Manchester Utd reserves 1:2).

Another match that should produce a lot of goal. Both of these teams started the season as relegation favorites, but played very well in first two rounds and scored a lot of goals. Fisher is momentarily (and surprisingly) the leader of Blue Square South – they were great (and a bit lucky) away at new guys Maidenhead (3:2 for Fishermen) and even better at home against Basingstoke (4:1). Weston was better than Thurrock in the 1st round (3:1, home) and than managed to draw away at newly merged Hayed & Yeading (2:2). A lot of goals in all of these matches, indeed. Fisher has a new manager from Dulwich Hamlet (Ryman One South) and he brough it 8 players from that club and some other guys too. The decision to release the entire 1st team squad from last season had a good effect on everybody involved at Fisher but in the end manager kept the best players from last season (scorer Goulding now plays better than ever, he scored three goals in two matches and the other old scorer Tomlin scored twice) and brought in another couple of talented youngsters. Fisher's place on the Blue Square South league table says it all. Weston's new manager also brought in a bunch of new players and 4 points out of first two games are keeping fans satisfied. Just like in Hyde – Tamworth case, I think Weston will probably score a goal or two but Fisher will probably win the game in the end.
