Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have achieved so much in just 18 years it's hard to imagine what they'll possibly do next. Among other things, the multimillionaires have starred in TV shows, developed their own book series, started a magazine, created a clothing line, and released a perfume. Despite a few rough spots in their lives, the two sisters continue to achieve success through their various projects.
The Olsens were born June 13, 1986, in Sherman Oaks, Calif. As most of the world knows, the girls got their start in entertainment by playing Michelle Tanner in the long-running sitcom Full House. They weren't quite a year old when the show started and were 8 years old when it ended. While filming the series, the sisters also worked on a series of straight-to-video releases. 1995 marked the twins' big screen debut with It Takes Two starring Kirstie Alley and Steve Guttenberg. In 1998 Mary-Kate and Ashley returned to television in the short-lived show Two of a Kind.
The twins aimed for the big screen again with 2004's New York Minute, which was a disappointment at the box office. The movie earned just under $6 million during its opening weekend, the lowest ever for any film playing at over 3,000 theaters. The sisters suffered another devastating blow when just days after their 18th birthday Mary-Kate checked into a rehab clinic to seek help for an eating disorder.
In the fall of 2004, Mary-Kate and Ashley started a new chapter in their lives by attending New York University. Rumors have circulated that Mary-Kate will not return next fall, but publicists have denied these reports. However, the sisters have decided to sell their $7.3 million Manhattan condo they were supposed to share while attending school. There is no word yet on what their next project will be, but it's sure to be something that will further propel their celebrity icon status.
