The Reggae Contest Com_Unity will award the winner with the official invitation to perform in all the above-listed festivals (more festivals could be added: stay tuned!)
This European tour will start with the show on Rototom Sunsplash main stage on Saturday 7th of July. The other dates will be announced soon.
BANDS EVALUATION: 50% tech jury + 50% public vote
A representative of each partner from this Com_Unity will be part of the technical jury in charge to value bands during mp3 selection and during the live final at Sunsplash. And, again this year, we invite also the European reggae massive to vote during the phases of the Reggae Contest. Votes from the 2 charts, jury’s and public’s one, will be translated in percentage and combined: 50% jury’s vote + 50% public vote.
BANDS REGISTRATION
Bands are invited to register and fill the application form available: - On rototomsunsplash.com (bands from all European countries) - On the website of the 18 partners listed above (only national registrations) The application form needs to be filled online. Requested data (except those for internal use) will be re-directed to a band CARD available online during Reggae Contest selections.
THE ITALIAN AWARD: 5th of July (pre-festival)
During the period of online selections, an internal commission of Rototom Sunsplash will be in charge to look for 8 Italian bands with a good historical background and active as regards cd release and tours (no newcomers). These 8 bands will be invited on thursday 5th of July (pre-festival) to a musical audition in the Showcase Area with the festival promoters who will choose 2 of them to join the final of the Reggae Contest and run for the European tour. This musical audition will be open to the public. Free entrance in the festival area.
THE LIVE FINAL: 6th of July (festival opening day)
It’s scheduled on friday, 6th of July, opening day of the Rototom Sunsplash, in the Showcase Area. 8 bands on stage: 2 from the Italian Award + 6 from Reggae Contest mp3 selection. Only 1 band will be the winner.

Rules and Enrollment
1. ORGANIZATION Rototom Sunsplash in collaboration with Rasta Snob (Italy), Eventagent-PlanetX, Foursista (Germany), Reggae.fr (France), Asociacion Cultural Reggae (Spain), Inforeggae.net (Portugal), Rock Vibe (Slovenia), A Com_Unity formed by reggae festivals and media from various European countries join the Reggae Contest 2007 and support the organization. All of them are officially in charge to collect bands inscriptions and value bands.
2. PARTECIPANTS: the competition is open to all European bands that count at least half of their components of nationality European
3. MUSIC STYLES All the following music styles will be taken into consideration: reggae, dub, original ska, ragamuffin, dancehall style, afro-reggae, samba-reggae. PLEASE NOTE: only artist performing original material will be allowed to take part to the competition. The application of bands whose lyrics promote violence or discrimination will be rejected
4. REGISTRATION: Registration is free. Registration is possible within the end date of the 20th of April 2007. After that date the enrollment will be considered closed. Artists or bands that intend to participate has to fill the form published on www.rototomsunsplash.com (bands from all Europe’s countries) CLICK HERE to register now. Registration is also possible on the following websites that are part of the Reggae Contest Com_Unity.
5. ACCEPTANCE: ROTOTOM SUNSPLASH will take into consideration only and exclusively bands that comply with all of the above.
Evaluation
The evaluation considers votes from 2 categories: Votes expressed by the reggae massive, invited to join the 2 phases of the contest Votes expressed by an European jury of experts formed by representatives of reggae media and promoters of reggae festivals Votes from the 2 charts will be translated in percentage and combined: 50%+50% Both categories will vote during the online selection and also during the live final at Rototom Sunsplash..
ONLINE SELECTION
All bands registered will be listed on the rototom website. Each band will be presented with some background data, one photo and the two mp3 Selection on mp3 will start on the 21st of April until 21st of May 2007. Only 6 bands will qualify for the final and will receive - free 9-day tickets for the festival - catering for the day of the final - hotel for the day of the final PLEASE NOTE: free tickets, catering and hotel are provided only to bands members.
ITALIAN AWARD
8 italian bands with a good historical background and active during the last 2 years will be selected by an internal commission of Rototom Sunsplash and invited to perform the 5th of July in the Showcase Area. The jury of European festival promoters will choose 2 of them to join the live final together with Reggae Contest finalists.
LIVE FINAL
It’s scheduled on the 6th of July 2007, opening day of the Rototom Sunsplash Location: Rototom Sunsplash Showcase stage. On stage 6 finalists selected on mp3 + 2 bands from the Italian Award Only 1 band will be the winner of the Reggae Contest 2007. Prizes

2. Promotional Tour in Europe
The winner will be invited to perform in all festivals that are joining the Reggae Contest Com_Unity. Every festival will provide - A contribution on travel expenses - Catering for the day of the performance - Accommodation according with promoter’s possibilities
