When I was in Bolzano some weeks ago i watched a movie together with Marcella. She inssited we should see it, even though she saw it already before. It was "Fried Green Tomatoes", which tells at the same time stories of two different generation of women:
The sentace I liked so much, and that actually inspired me to write today was one in which one of several main actresses, played by Kathy Bates, desperately declares: "I am too young to be old, and too old to be young!"
Matthew, my Bro that has always been so deeply into movies, has suggested when I was telling him about this quote that the movies was made aftert the book "Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe", which had much more of a lesbian love story incorportated, but the film makers didn't dare to play with the original script.
Naturally, I had to share with Bro, Thomas and Hanno, with whom I was havin ga lunch that day, a sentence I liked so much. Thomas commented on it, saying that I must be facing my first middle-age crisis... Well, well, well, I would not put it in that way, but since it sounds so funny, I decided in those days to sink into my first midle-age depression. Luckily, it didn't last for too long, but honestly, don't you sometimes feel exactly like that: too young to be old, and too old to be young?
The life and times of a woman in her mid-thirties is described in a blog that is colled Mid Thirties Life Crisis, what tells there are the others with similar feelsigs (should I write down crisis!?). And, btw, doesn't this concept resembles Bridget Jones' story?!?!? Remeber this contemporary heroina of all singe, thirty plus women!
Perhaps I sound a bit bitter, but that is how things are. We get older, wishing that or not, and the younger generations of more attractive, slimmer, less demanding and more tolerant females are entering the market every season. Souns unfair? Life is unfair, accept it or not!
Of course I couldn't stop myself from searching for more info on my theory (or state of mined, better to say), in order to get confirmation I am not the only one at the edge of the first and pre-mature middle-age crisis. And, it's all been documented, researched and analysed!. I felt a bit relived when I found out that statistics prove that nowadays there are more single men in their thirties who live alone than women. An artilce at BBC even warns: Forget Bridget Jones - meet Brad!
To finish this post in more humorous way, I will share the story a freind of mine from Graz, Dijana and I invented the other night while out. Namely, while two male freinds in their mid-thirites that were out with us were preocupied with flerting with two student freinds of ours (that are more than 10 years younger then they are), completely ignoring us, Dijana and I came to the conclusion that the only role we might assume in the sceene we foundourself into was the one of Muppet Show's characters Statler & Waldorf, two old grumpy puppets who occupy the marginal box seat and heckle the others. Therefore, I simply couldn't resist the other day in Vienna and took a photo at Gudrun's sister's place of those two lovely puppets:
