Yesterday I was going through some old stuff and I have found an old old ring. It was iron and "I gave gold for iron 1914" DADOH ZLATO ZA ŽELJEZO was written on it. Then I asked and got an explenation/information about that. So, it was my great-grandmother's ring, from my grandmother's side. In the World War One people were selling their golden jewellery to the state. It was kind of a patriotic gesture or duty even, because arms were bought from that gold. In exchange for the golden jewelery, people got those iron rings and after the war they were supposed to get their gold back. As Austro-Hungary stopped existing, they never did.
