Evo o Calelli...

The Municipality of Calella at just 45 minutes from Barcelona has three kilometres of beach and magnificent natural rocky coves, one of which is a naturist beach and the town itself extends from the littoral to the Natural Park of the Montnegre. The beaches of Calella have received for the past eight years the distinguished European Blue Flag for good quality and thanks to the beautiful beaches an important tourist infrastructure with first quality services has been created. Also Calella has a very attractive commercial offer where the shopping area of the city has been converted into a pedestrian zone for the comfort of all our visitors.

On the beach all types of sports area available such as kayaks, windsurf, sailing, beach volley, football, aerobics, a mini club for children, the beach library, etc. These activities are organised by the animation group known as “Calella Activa”. Also many cultural events are organised by this group throughout the summer such as artisans markets, concerts, fiestas, etc. Also Calella has an ideal infrastructure for the celebration of congresses and conventions. A great variety of restaurants, terraces, dance halls, discos and music bars, which create an excellent nightlife offer, ideal for all ages.
The antique part of the city begins at the Parish Church, with its typical narrow streets, which during the summer are buzzing with activity. The Parish Church of Santa Maria, neoclassic, conserves its original baroque entrance surrounded by the sculptures of the twelve apostles by Jean de Tours. The nearby buildings are also surrounded by history, such as the “Casa dels Salvadors” C. XIV, with its gothic windows, or the Casa Sivilla C. XVI. In the Archive Museum of Calella there are many objects and documents, which refer to the history of the city. It is also worth visiting the “Capella”, small church of Sant Quirze and Santa Julita (Patron Saints of Calella), or the lighthouse of Calella constructed in the year 1859 and which is also a symbol of the city, or the antique telegraphic towers on the hill near the lighthouse, constructed in the years 1849 and 1850. The Dalmau Park is a natural area within the city ideal for strolling in the shade of its trees. The Promenade known as the “Passeig de Manuel Puigvert” is also beautiful for strolling with its hundred-year-old plantain trees. The new promenade known as “Garbi”, is ideal for enjoying the view of the sea from one of the many benches situated there. The forests within the natural park of Montnegre are ideal for walking routes and for cycling.

Many important events are celebrated on the Passeig of Manuel Puigvert (promenade), such as the faire of Calella and the Alt Maresme, the traditional Catalan sardana dance, concerts and the spectacular beer festival, which is known as the “Oktoberfest”. Calella is also famous for many other very important culture events such as the Carnival, the Catalan Rose Exhibition, the annual Sardana Dance Festival, which is the most antic and important Sardana Festival of Catalonia, the festivities of the Patron Saint of the City “Saint Quirze and Saint Julita”, the festivities of “La Minerva”, parades of the Giants of Catalonia, monumental paellas on the beach, sailors concerts and the International Bands Festival.

These are just some of the reasons why Calella is one of the most important holiday places both in Catalonia and Spain and has continued to maintain very high standards that have resulted in the city being known as the Tourist Capital of the Maresme Coast.
