Blondie je bio jedan od najpopularnijih bandova na njujorškoj glazbenoj scenih kasnih 1970-ih.Kako je punk nestajao u Velikoj Britaniji,njujorški bandovi poput Blondie ili Talking Heads su preuzeli dio energije punka,dodali elektroničku produkciju i utjecaj disca,stvarajući nešto što će se koju godinu kasnije nazvati «novi val».Od njihovog prvog hita 1978. do raspadanja poslije uspjeha pjesme Rapture,Blondie su vladali top listama.Spomenut ću samo neke od njihovih hitova : Call me,The tide is high,Heart of gass,Denise Denise...Utjecaj disca je vidljiv u pjesmi Rapture,a evergreen One way or another je nasljeđe glam rocka.Nakon raspada,pjevačica Deborah (Debbie) Harry se okrenula solo karijeri koja je bila veliki neuspjeh,ali se band zato ponovno okupio 1998. i povratio slavu velikim hitom Maria.
