Oh it’s hard when you can’t get a job in the place where you belong
When you’re forced to leave your family and the place where you were born
I left Glasgow town three years ago to go to Germany
Got a good job there in Hamburg town in a place called St. Pauli

Ah, the very first night I landed boys I was a lonely man
So I bade goodbye to my hotel room and I made for the Reeperbahn
By a little square I found a bar and I went in for a beer
And the scene that I did witness there did fill my heart with cheer

Well the jukebox played the Dubliners and the crowd all sang along
And each boy and girl in that Hamburg bar knew the words of every song
They most graciously invited me to join their company
So I spent that night and the next three years with the fans of St. Pauli

When I said I am a Celtic man they slapped me on the back
For they kept a place for Celtic deep within their hearts
Before the night was over the arrangements were complete
Had a squat, friends, and a darling girl and a brand new football team

If you’re ever in St. Pauli boys be sure and catch a game
I can vouch for their supporters, can vouch that their insane
And as to their opinions well they leave you in no doubt
As they wave their Celtic scarves on high to the chants of “Nazis Raus”
