Nothing robotic here at all -- as the groove is
fluid, moving, and plenty darn organic -- a heavy
dose of deep funk from the mighty Impellers! The
group seem to mix in a good deal of Afro Funk
elements with their straight ahead funk
particularly in the way the horns come together
the rhythms slide out, and the guitars wrap around
the groove -- although some cuts have the combo
working in a much more soul-based mode altogether!
All instrumentation is razor-sharp -- a groove that
makes us rank these guys right up there with The
Bamboos, or some of the other heavy-hitting deep
funk groups on Freestyle -- and the production is
more than lean enough to keep their edge
throughout.
