Like their successful contemporaries Kings of Leon, the Features play gritty, punk-ish rock & roll and pop music, but with a heavy dollop of soul that belies their Southern upbringing. On "GMF" the group combines a driving, Strokes-like groove and melody with Supertramp/10cc-style Rhodes keyboards and harmony vocals, while the quirky "Concrete" sounds like the Kinks jamming with `80s art-rockers Sparks. Throughout, lead singer Matt Pelham reveals his Tennessee roots by giving a vocal performance that is equal parts Michael Stipe and Stax
On June 17, 2009, Bug Music CEO John Rudolph announced that his company and Kings of Leon would be entering into the joint venture of establishing a new record label imprint, where Kings of Leon will have the freedom to sign and champion artists of their choice. The Features are the first band to be signed to the imprint, and the first release as part of the deal will be their highly anticipated LP, Some Kind Of Salvation.
