Alchemist is a hip hop producer and emcee. After rising to prominence in the late 1990s as a close associate of Dilated Peoples and Mobb Deep, he went on to produce many of hip hop's leading artists in the 2000s, and has been hailed as one of the genre's leading producers. "Chemical Warfare" is his upcoming second album.

But basically, it's Chemical Warfare because the first album was 1st Infantry and this is a futurstic version. Chemical Warfare is the type of war that isn't fought with sticks and bats type of sh–, where people start dropping. There is a power you don’t see. You don't know where it is and that's basically the concept.

The Antlers' Hospice features artwork that is delicate but painfully red, and the title instills more dread than anything ever conjured by Cannibal Corpse. Supposedly the self-released album began as a narrative if not a memoir of Peter Silberman's experiences with self-imposed isolation and discouragement experienced shortly after arriving in New York City, 2006. Here, Silberman is joined by a full band, as well as Brooklyn vocalist Sharon Van Etten.

There is an undeniable thread of sadness pervading Hospice. One envisions the still air found in rooms of care for those with terminal illness. The distant sounds here swell, become throbbing sensations, cede again. As with sickness, there is a sedentary nature to the record, it's often parked and it festers, but with all the fascinating, hallucinatory imagery one may imagine the terminally ill (or deeply heartbroken) to encounter.

The two singles from the album are excellent pop songs. "Two" became a blog darling after its September 2008 release and "Bear" was released just last month. Neither one of these tunes contain the same degree of imminent fear and vulnerability that the majority of the album's songs seem to. Siberman's delivery is more rollicking, bolder, as demonstrated:

"Daddy was an asshole and he fucked you up, built the gears in your head, now he greases them up."

Moments like these serve to remind that not all of hospice lives on cold linens; there is real dream sway here, blissed tunefulness. Though, for the most part the lyrics remain focused on physical and emotional confrontation and discomfort, conveyed via shimmering falsetto.

Deriving their name from James Franco's character in cult TV show Freaks And Geeks, Desario are a Sacramento-based quartet who derive influence from the very poppiest, most summery recesses of the indie rock universe. When describing the band Darla themselves throw names around like The Smiths, The Wedding Present and Felt, illustrating the sort of Anglophilic jangle they're prone to summoning up. This is about as straight-up as guitar bands get, and there's really not much going on here to shake the Earth to its foundations, yet there's a level of accomplishment and amiability to all this that can't help but appeal to the sensibilities of any remotely sympathetic ear. 'Cane Cola', 'Fine Time' and 'Rain And Gold' all evoke classic British sounds from the '80s and early '90s, cloaked in a North Californian accent, and helpfully, the production bulks up the album's overall feel very nicely, adding sufficient muscle to make up for whatever feyness has been inherited from the palette of influences.

Two Way Radio is a unique, piano-driven rock band from Memphis, TN that combines simple pop melodies with intricate instrumental and vocal arrangements. Lead vocalist and pianist Kate Crowder, along with her husband/bassist Corey Crowder and guitarist Andrew McColgan, formed the band as Walkie Talkie in 2003, when all three were sharing a house together. After playing and writing together as a trio for a short time, veteran musican Joey Pegram was added on the drums, thus solidifying the band's rhythm section. Time passed, more new members were added (keyboardist Joe McClusky and guitarist J.D. Reager), and the band was forced to change it's name to Two Way Radio after a legal dispute with another band called Walkie Talkie in California. Their 2006 debut release on Makeshift, Residential Llama, was well received locally and regionally, and the band is currently hard at work on their first national release. With Scott Bomar at the helm (as producer) and Ardent Studios' generous donation of studio time for the record-their album is due out in late Spring/early Summer of 2009.

These are the first lyrics you'll hear on "On A Sad Sunny Day", the debut album by ARCTIC PLATEAU, and this sentiment is the golden thread that runs through each of the eleven tracks. This album enchants you with an open, dream-like atmosphere and is characterized by a fascinating ambivalence of hope and melancholy, euphoria and sadness. It's like an introspective trip into your inner self and into your own past, a rekindling of memories and sealed-up emotions. The artist himself describes his compositions as 'explicitly dreamed music', and it's hard to think of any better term for the music of this one-man project.
