Divna milost
Nedavno je snimljen film Amazing Grace o Williamu Wilberforcu, kod nas malo poznatom, čovjeku koji se u 18. stoljeću borio da se u Britanskom carstvu zabrani trgovanje robovima.
Kad je bio izabran u Britanski parlament imao je samo 21 godinu i započinjao je uspješnu političku karijeru te se 20 godina borio s engleskim "establishmentom" i onima na vlasti kako bi ukinuo nehumanu trgovinu robovima. To je tek ostvareno 1807. godine.
U pozadini te priče je i priča o Johnu Newtonu, bliskom prijatelju Paula Wilberforca koji ga je nadahnjivao u njegovoj borbi protiv nepravde.
John Newton napisao je riječi jedne od najpoznatijih i najpopularnijih himni svih vremena, a između 1760. i 1770. dok je bio evanđeoski pastor. I sam je bio dugo godina kapetan broda s robovima sve dok nije proživio dramatično obraćenje u jednoj oluji. Pokajao se i zažalio za patnju koju je uzrokovao tisućama te je posvetio svoj život Bogu.
Još jedan podsjetnik da za Boga nije problem kakvi smo jer i najveće grešnike (od kojih sam prvi ja) može dotaknuti i promijeniti život.
