Conacher overcomes diabetes to reach NHL

It’s a good thing Cory Conacher isn’t a baseball player.


Early in his athletic career, Conacher had three major challenges that could easily have added up to strikes 1, 2 and 3.


To begin with, the 5-foot-8 Conacher was decidedly small to be a hockey forward, certainly not as big in reality or lore as his famous relatives who cast a giant shadow – Lionel, Charlie and Roy Conacher, all in the Hockey Hall of Fame and cousins of Cory’s grandfather.
