Dugačak put do današnjeg sastava Iron Maidena je započeo davne 1975. godine, kratko nakon što je basista Steve Harris otišao iz benda Smiler. Razlog tomu je bio što se Harrisovim kolegama nisu svidjele njegove pjesme. Naziv za novi bend je Harrisu pao na pamet prilikom gledanja filmske adaptacije Man in the Iron Mask. Naziv Iron Maiden označava srednjevjekovnu spravu za mučenje.
Steve Harris i gitarista Dave Murray su dan danas najstariji članovi benda, prisutni gotovo od samoga početka. Bend je imao dvanaest različitih sastava u 70im godinama. Iako je Iron Maiden bio pod enormnim utjecajem nekolicine bendova kao što su Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, UFO, Yes, Wishbone Ash, Apocalypse, Queen te Judas Priest, njihova najranija ostvarenja nesumnjivo nalikuju na punk.
Pravi Iron Maidenov uspjeh počinje 1978. godine kada se Harrisu i Murrayu pridružuju vokal Paul Di'Anno te bubnjar Doug Sampson.
U to vrijeme Iron Maiden postaje prava senzacija u engleskim heavy metal krugovima. Bend svira već tri godine i skuplja popriličnu količinu lojalnih fanova, no još nemaju snimljen niti jedan album. To se mijenja na staru godinu 1978., bend snima jedan od najpoznatijih demo albuma u povijesti hard rocka, The Soundhouse Tapes. The Soundhouse Tapes čine četiri pjesme, a svih 5000 primjeraka biva prodanu u roku od nekoliko tjedana. Kasnije se The Soundhouse Tapes može pronaći pod enormnom cijenom od nekoliko tisuća dolara, sve do ponovno izadnja 1996. godine. Dvije pjesme na demo albumu, "Prowler" te "Iron Maiden" dostižu prvu poziciju britanske metal ljestvice.

Uspjeh
Nakon izdavanja albuma Iron Maiden 1980. godine, bend uživa veoma velik komercijalan uspjeh i ubrzo se pridružuje najpoznatijim bendovima NWOBHMa (New Wave of British Heavy Metal). Iron Maiden se te godine pridružuje bendu KISS na njihovo Unmasked turneji. Poslije turneje, Dennis Stratton biva izbačen iz benda zbog razmirica. Tada se bendu pridružuje Adrian Smith.
1981. godine bend izdaje svoj novi album Killers. Tek dvije pjesme sa toga albuma su rađene konkretno za njega, dok su ostale uglavnom Iron Maidenovi prijašnju uratci.
Kao i kod mnogih drugih bendova, i u Iron Maidenu je bilo velike konzumacije alkohola. Kakogod, većina članova nije koristila nikakve druge supstance, iznimka biva vokalista Paul Di'Anno koji ima problema sa ponašanjem, uzrokovan uzimanjem kokaina. Baš u vrijeme kada Iron Maiden doživljava uspjeh i u Americi, performanse vokaliste opadaju, a 1981. ga zamjenjuje bivši Samsonov vokalista Bruce Dickinson.
Od samoga početka Dickinson ne pokušava impersonirati Paula Di'Annoa već slijedi svoj stil. Prije Dickinsonova dolaska, legendarni DJ Tommy Vance mu je savjetovao da se ne pridružuje Iron Maidenu, no ovaj ga ignorira. Dickinson debitira 1982. izlaskom albuma The Number of the Beast koji se svrstava među klasike heavy metal žanra. Album biva uspješan u cijelome svijetu, a najuspješnije pjesme su "The Number of the Beast", "Run to the Hills" te "Hallowed Be Thy Name". Bend po drugi puta ide na svjetsku turneju, ovoga puta posjećuju SAD, Kanadu, Japan i Australiju. Turneja postaje prepoznatljiva po kontroverzi sa strane religijskih skupina, koje tvrde da je Iron Maiden sotonistički bend. Optužbe su se uglavnom vrtjele oko pjesme "The Number of the Beast", a Steve Harris osporava optužbe tvrdeći da je ista pjesma bazirana na njegovom snu. Optužbe se unatočn tome nastavljaju. Skupina krščanskih aktivista uništava Iron Maiden ploče ( uključujući one od Ozzya Osbournea ) zapalivši ih. Ono što ne idu u ruku aktivistima je činjenica da je jedan od članova benda krščan, Nicko McBrain, a on sam ne vidi nikakvih problema u pjesmi.
Iron Maiden se 1983. vraća snimanju studijskih albuma, te u samo nekoliko godina naredaju čak četiri albuma, Piece of Mind, Powerslave, live album Live After Death te Somewhere in Time kod kojega se ističe uloga gitariste Adriana Smitha.

Četrnaesti studijski album Iron Maidena, diljem svijeta izdan 28. kolovoza 2006. godine ( 5. rujna u SADu i Kanadi ). Producent je ponovno Kevin Shirley, te ponosno nosi titulu najdužeg Iron Maiden albuma.

stvarno oprostite zato kaj vam nisaM tak dugo pisao...
testovi,učenje,škola,problemi....jednostavno život u zbrci....
ali na sreću,jučer sam pisao zadnji test u godini...

Twisted sister je stari bend iz 80-ih,70-ih,90-ih kojeg sam ja počeo slušat tek prije tjedan dana....zakon su,pogotovo pjevač...

ovi prosti prstovi mi možda neće dobro ispast...

malo odmaranja od glupe škole,glupih ljudi...
u školi cure kao snimaju neki njihov glupi film ''Otkačeni vikend''...
i ja glumim...
ja glumim sebe...tak mi piše u tekstu...
ali u filmu su dvije cure koje su kao potajno zaljubljene u mene...
ali kud baš meni naj ružnijee....

u prošlom postu sam spominjao onu curu koja mi se sviđa...
i ono za propalicu nije istina...
valeria(njena frendica) mi je rekla da joj je darko(moj frend) reko da
ja želim bit s tom curom koju sam spominjao samo da mi bude rezerva za jednu drugu curu karlu...
ALI TO NIJE ISTINA,JA NEBI S KARLOM BIO NI DA ME PUŠKOM TJERAJU...!!!
ja nikako nebi neku curu koja mi se tak jako sviđa stavljao na rezervu...
u ostalom,nebi nikad imo te rezerve...to je tak glupo...
a taj moj kao frend darko je meni reko da bi on htio bit s onom karlom samo da bi ju poslije zbario...
i kak da ja sad toj curi koja mi se sviđa sve to objasnim...odgovorite u commentima...
ja ću tog darka ubiti u ponedjeljak u školi...
njegova galava će bit u ovom gore...
a onda poslije,od njega će ostat samo ovo...
...dosta o tome...
već sam napiso jako puno pjesama od benda mog...
znate kak su zakon ,ali neću vam ih tu napisat jer bi netko mogo ukrast ideje od mene i mojih frendova...
i mislim da BI sad bilo vrijeme da vam kažem........
