Futuresonic now invites artists, thinkers and makers to get social and submit proposals to its Art, Music, Ideas and EVENTS strands. he festival takes place 1-4 May in Manchester UK.

The Social - Social Networking Unplugged

An annual festival of art, music and ideas, which is currently in its 12th year, Futuresonic occupies the orbits of both music and digital culture.

Extending the focus in recent years on presenting artworks in unexpected city spaces, and on social art and social technologies, the 2008 theme is The Social - Social Networking Unplugged.

Transforming the city into a space of experimentation, making it come alive

A commission valued at Ł5000 is available for a new project responding to the Social Networking Unplugged theme. Support will also be available for additional projects, and Futuresonic also invites submissions of projects that do not require funding from the festival. Futuresonic's art strand focuses on social and participatory artworks which re-imagine the city.

An internationally renowned conference, exploring online, mobile and unplugged social networking

Submissions are now invited to the Futuresonic conference and the Social Technologies Summit. Proposals for talks, presentations and workshops plus also session themes are invited. Submissions of innovative formats for social interaction and experimentation are encouraged. Theme - Online, Mobile and Unplugged Social Networking

In 2008 we invite musicians to share their take on innovative, original and daring 21st century music with our audience. Futuresonic's roots are in post-dub electronic music, and it showcases genre defying great live music. Futuresonic 2007 featured included stunning live music from mavericks and pioneers of advanced sound. Futuresonic will be able to support a limited number of performances.

Stage your own EVNT!

Futuresonic now invites any programmer, curator, promoter, label or artist group anywhere in the world to stage an independent event in EVNTS 2008, a city-wide showcase of affiliated events, with the EVNTS Competition offering awards of Ł1,000 and Ł500 for a limited number of events. Since its introduction in 2005, EVNTS has grown into a community of people who each year return to give the festival an extra edge.
