Svake subote na HRT vrti se serija Ugly Betty,koja u Americi ima izvrsnu gledanost.Ulogu Betty Suarez u seriji Ugly Betty(ružna Betty) ima America Fererra,23-godišnja glumica.
Serija govori o površnom svijetu mode u kojem mladost,ljepota,mršavost su najvažnije osobine.Sve ostalo je neprihvatljivo.Radnja se odvija u uredništvu poznatog modnog časopisa Mode.Betty dobiva posao asistentice igrom slučaja i iznenadi sve kao i Danijela svo šefa,mladog playboya koji je se u početku htio rješiti.Betty sa lakoćom preživljava poslovne zadatke dok joj malo teže ide uklapanje među zaposlenice Moda koje sve do jedne izgledaju poput manekenki.
Tema serije nije orginalna ,ali neki likovi ,posebno Betty, donose seriji jednu dozu simpatičnosti da ju morate iznova pogledati.Meni jedan od simpatičnijih likova je njen nećak Justin (12 godina) koji se više od nje razumije u modu i kojem se uvijek možete smijati.Svakako preporučam da ga pogledate dotičnu seriju jer je jako simpatična,humoristična ,ali vas natjera da se zapitate neke stvari.Meni pomalo sliči na film Vrag nosi pradu ,ali Ugly Betty mi bolje obrađuje cijelu temu.Producentica serije je Salma Hayek koja se pojavila u seriji par puta kao glavna glumica u telenoveli koju gledaju Justin,Betty i ostatak njene obitelji.
Početkom sljedeće godina počet će se prikazivati i hrvatska verzija.
Glavnu ulogu ima America Ferrera koja i nije najljepša u seriji ,ali svojim pojavljivanjima na crvenom tepihu i u modnim editorijalima je dokazala da je prava ljepotica sa oblinama.Ona se ponosi svojim izgledom i voli svoju ulogu jer joj dopušta da bude svoja.
Izjavila je:''Što je danas normalno? Izgladnjivanje nije lijepo. Čak i kad bih htjela biti anoreksična, ne bih mogla. Nakon četiri sata izgladnjivanja, rekla bih: 'Ok, prošla su cijela četiri sata! Nahranite me!"
