Different Types of Organ Transplants

utorak , 03.12.2019.

Organ transplantation is a technique in which an organ, tissue or group of cells is taken from a person (the donor) and transplanted to another person (the recipient) or we can say moved from one site to another in the same person.

Organ transplantation is one of the incredible inventions of modern medicine. In this article, I will mention the types of organ transplants.

Skin transplant
Donor’s skin has proven to be an effective treatment option for patients suffering from severe burns, acting as a temporary dressing and enabling and promoting healing until a patient is ready to graft using his or her own skin.

Vascular tissues transplant
Transplantation of vascular tissue circulating the blood in the body can help relieve symptoms of shortness of breath, fatigue, and dizziness in patients with severe cardiovascular disorders.Vascular tissue can be donated up to 24 hours after death.

Heart transplant
A healthy heart from a donor who has suffered a brain death is used to replace the damaged heart of the patient.Because of the complexity of this procedure, strict medical criteria are imposed to determine whether the heart of a donor is able for transplant or not; and whether a potential recipient is fit to receive the transplant or not.

Liver transplant
The diseased liver of a patient is replaced by a healthy liver from a donor. Dead or deceased donors are those whose family members give their consent to donate part of the liver or other organs to the patient.

Cornea transplant
Corneal donation restores the vision of people who are blind because of corneal disease. A damaged or cloudy cornea can be surgically replaced by a healthy, normal cornea, donated by another individual, during a corneal transplant.

Lung transplant
Pulmonary transplantation is a surgical procedure in which the replacement of a sick or damaged lung of a patient is done with the lung of a healthy person.A lung or both lungs of a recently deceased donor serve to replace the patient's lung or diseased lungs.

Trachea Transplant
The trachea is a cartilaginous tube descending from the larynx to the bronchi and lungs. A tracheal transplant can help patients suffering from hardening and narrowing of the trachea.

Kidney transplant
A kidney for transplant can be taken from a living or dead donor. This is a surgical operation in which the diseased or damaged kidney is replaced by the healthier one.

Pancreas transplant
This type of transplant is commonly performed on type 1 diabetics whose pancreas does not work properly.

ORGAN India is a Delhi based NGO, initiated by The Parashar Foundation in March 2013. It is formed with the intention to make a difference in the lives of thousands of people, by providing them donated organs. ORGAN India envisioned to address and reform the gloomy state of deceased organ donation in India.
