Prošlo je 10 godina od smrti velike legende rap-a. Jos je dan danas njegov slučaj ne
riješen. U novom broju XXL-a (časopisa o hip hop glazbi) par stranica posvećeno je Biggie-ju.
Veliki MC, sa svojim sporim flow-om i značajnim stilom obilježio je rap scenu i postao legenda cijele hip hop kulture. Kralj East Coast rap-a jako je poštovan kao umjetnik od svojih fanova pa i do ljudi koji ne slušaju rap.

WEST COAST RAP
Poznat je i pod nazivima WEST COAST HIP HOP i CALIFORNIA HIP HOP, to je stil hip hopa nastao u Kaliforniji ranih 80-ih godina. Prerastao je u žarn hip hopa i izgradio nekoliko kreativnih centara, većina u Afro-Americkim zajednicama u Kaliforniji. Dominirao je hip hop scenom srednjih 90-ih godina sa popularnosti g-funka. Izbacivanjem albuma Dr.Dre-a pod nazivom "THE CHRONIC", west coast rap je bacio iskru i zavladao svjetskom scenom glazbe.
THE CHRONIC
Centar West Coast hip hopa je Los Angeles, ali uključuju se i San Francisco Bay Area, San Diego, Sacramento i Seattle.
Pocetak West Coast hip hopa moze se naci jos u kasnim 90-ima. Nakon osnivanja hip hopa u New Yorku, ta glazba se prosirila po cijelom SAD-u. Brzo je dosla do Kalifornije, gdje je jaka prisutnost Afro-Amerikanaca obuhvatila hip hop, osnovali su se "block parties" tj. zabave po kvartovima , i hip hop se poceo pustati u klubovima. West Coast hip hop je poceo djelovati u 80-ima kad je hip hop glazba prvi put izazvala nacionalno protestirati, i osnovala se u Kaliforniji u potpunosti, tocnije u Los Angelesu.
TOO $HORT
Rani hardcore rapperi uključujući legendu iz Bay Area, Too $hort, koji je počeo rappati 1983 i izbacio 3 nezavisna albuma, a 1987 "BORN TO MACK" koji je dostigao zlato. Too $hort ce do 1991 izbaciti jos 2 albuma koja će biti platinum i double platinum. u L.A.-u tokom istog perioda, rap umjetnici kao sto su ICE-T, Capitan Rapp, King Tee, Toddy Tee i Mix Master Spade, C.I.A. dobili su prominenciju dok su World Class Wreckin' Cru, DJ Unknown, Egyptian Lover i The Arabian Prince stvarali stil zvan ELECTRO HOP ili samo ELECTRO, tj. mjesana hip hop i dance glazba - prateći trag Afrika Bambaate koji je spojio hip hop i reggae, funk i Njemacki techno.
GANGSTA RAP
Takozvani GANGSTA RAP je također osnovan u Kaliforniji 80-ih kao veliki kontrast electho hop-u i ostalim blagim verzijama hip hop-a. "6 in the mornin" Ice-T-a 1986 je jedan od prvih Gangsta rap albuma te je dospio do zlatnog priznanja. "N.W.A." grupe N.W.A. i the Posse su izasli ubrzo nakon T-a. CD je bio kompilacija albuma rappera iz grupe N.W.A. (Niggaz With Attitude). Njihovi albumi se smatraju prvim pravim Gangsta rap albumima.
N.W.A.
1988 N.W.A izdaje legendarni albun "STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON" i stavlja West Coast hip hop na hip hop scenu. Zvuk je sa minimalno beateva i blunta, jaki tekstovi koji su bili uglavnom puni nasilja, hedoizma i kriminalnog stila zivota. nedugo nakon tog albuma Eazy E izbacuje "EAZY-DUZ-IT" pod produkcijom Dr.Dre-a.. 1989 The D.O.C. izbacuje svoj solo album "NO ONE CAN DO IT BETTER" koji je jedan od jako hvaljenih albuma. Ice Cube je izbacio "AMERRIKKKA'S MOST WANTED" i "DEATH CERTIFICATE" koji su isto tako hvaljeni albumi. EFIL4ZAGGIN je prvi hip hop album koji je dospio na prvo mjesto na BILLBOARD-ovoj ljestvici.
90-e
DIGITAL UNDERGROUND
Dvije grupe su još bile popularne u to vrijeme su DIGITAL UNDERGROUND i COMPTON'S MOST WANTED. Ali ni jedna nije zasjenila N.W.A. koji su i dalje oblikovali West Coast rap. Neki članovi tih grupa nisu isli u solo karijere (MC Eiht iz CMW) za razliku od 2PAC-a iz DU koji je nastavio graditi West Coast rap. Tokom 2pac-ove rane karijere, rappao je o socijalnim i politickim problemima na albumima "2PACALYPSE NOW" i "STRICTLY 4 MY N.I.G.G.A.Z.", ali kad je promjenio stil njegova glazba smatrana je pravom Gangsta/Thug Rapom sredinom 91-ih.
Latinski rap je u to vrijeme startao, a to su bili Kid Frost, Mellow Man Ace koji se i nisu toliko proslavili jer su pokusavali probiti West u NYC, te South Gate, CA natives i Cypress Hill.
West Coast hip hop ima prepoznatljive beateve, textove najvise o gangsterskom zivotu, bandama, drogi, nasilju iako nisu sve pjesme i rapperi takvi. Legendama West Coast Rap-a smatraju se N.W.A., Too $hort, Dr.Dre, Eazy E, Ice-T, Ice Cube, 2pac, Snoop Dogg...

TUPAC LEGACY TOUR
Tupac Shakur is undoubtedly one of the most successful MCs of all time. The Tupac Legacy tour is a concert production presented by A&M Entertainment along with Ms. Afeni Shakur and the Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation.
This national tour will celebrate the life of the legendary multi-platinum artist, actor, songwriter, visionary and poet Tupac Shakur by recounting his timeless music and achievements as an accomplished performer.
The tour will consist of a high-energy production along with top musicians presenting selected songs by the Legendary Tupac Shakur portraying him in his element: the stage. In addition, other celebrity talent will focus on motivational point-of-views pertaining to Tupac's legacy and the arts.

JAM MASTER JAY - THE FATHER OF HIP HOP
Jason William Mizell poznatiji kao JAM MASTER JAY, bio je osnivač i DJ grupe RUN-D.M.C. osnovane u Queens-u,NY
Mizell je rođen u Brooklyn-u, NY. svirao je bass i ubnjeve u nekoliko uličnih bendova prije nego je postao član Run-D.M.C.-a; na svim albumima od Raising hell on, svirao je klavijature, bass i bubnjeve kao dodatak svojim TURNTABLE vještinama. Mizell je ostao u svome rodnome kvartu cijeli život. osnovao je Scratch DJ Akademiju na Manhattan-u za djecu zainteresiranu u DJ posao.
1989, Mizell je osnovao JAM MASTER JAY RECORDS, koji je postigao veliki uspjeh 1993 sa grupom ONYX. Uz to se udruzio sa Chuck D-jem i DEF JAM osnivačem Rick Rubin-om. (Def Jam-ov drugi osnivač, russell simmons je brat od DJ Run-a)
1990., Mizell je doživio prometnu nesreću i pucnjavu u kojoj je pogođen te je preživio. 30. listopada 2002 je upucan i ubijen u Mrrick Boulevard-u u studiju koji se nalazio u Queens-u. druga osoba u studiu 23-godišnji Urieco Rincon je upucan u gležanj.
The New York Daily News je objavio da su vlasti istražile da li Kenneth "SUPREME" McGiff, osuđeni diler droge i dugogodišnji prijatelj Murder Inc. šefova Irv i Chris Gotti-a, imaj kakve veze sa slučajem da ubiju Mizell-a zato jer je navodno na imao neke veze sa pjesmom koju je napisao rapper 50 Cent "Ghetto Qur'an" koja govori o McGiff-u i njegovoj dilerskoj prošlosti. Izjava u 2003.:"agenti za provošenje zakona istražuju mogućnost da je Jason Mizell (Jam Master Jay) ubijen jer je prkosio crnoj listi 50 Cent-a.

NEW YORK --Policija istražuje ubojstvo Jam Master Jay-a, DJ-a legendarne grupe Run-D.M.C.
Jam Master Jay (37) prema navodima policije, ubijen je u srijedu navečer oko 19:30 u glazbenom studiu u Queens-u. Drugi čovjek koj je bio s njim Urieco Rinco (25) je pogođen u nogu odvezen u bolnicu.
Policija je pronašla dvije .45 kalibarske čahure, ali nije bilo traga motivu.
Svjedoci su opisali napadača kao mladog crnog muškarca u bijeloj majci. Policija je rekla da su dva napadača potrala u zgradu, otišla u studio na drugom katu i pucala u Jam Master Jay-a iz blizine.
Fanovi grupe okupili su se ispred zgrade u srijedu i ostajali do drugog dana kako bi izrazili svoje poštovanje.

MISSION
Our mission is to provide training and support for students who aspire to enhance their creative talents. Each and every child desires freedom to creatively express themselves. We provide an environment that encourages freedom of expression, serves as a resource for families, and empowers via education.
ABOUT
Founded in 1997 by Afeni Shakur, mother of the multi-talented Tupac Shakur, the Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation (TASF) originally began as the Shakur Family Foundation. Afeni formed the Foundation as a way to bring quality arts training to our young people. A broad range of training is offered via the Annual Performing Arts Day Camp held at the Tupac Amaru Shakur Center for the Arts (home of the Foundation). Disciplines include creative writing, vocal technique, acting, stage set design, dance, poetry & spoken word, and the business of entertainment. The Performing Arts Day Camp is open to students ages 12-18. Application will be posted under the PACamp link soon.
The Foundation has also hosted Essay Competitions throughout the U.S., charity Golf Tournaments, & awarded scholarships to students pursuing undergraduate degrees.
TASF, Inc is currently working to create and preserve an institution for Hip-Hop & Urban Culture at the Tupac Amaru Shakur Center for the Arts. MORE ABOUT TUPAC
Tupac accomplished a lot during the span of his life. At an early age, he wrote and organized family productions, casting himself as the lead and his older cousins in supporting roles.
Tupac formally trained at the 127th Street Ensemble and Baltimore School for the Arts. At the age of twelve, Tupac experienced his first formal stage role as the character "Travis" in the stage play 'Raisin In the Sun.' The play was performed at the prestigious Apollo Theatre in Harlem.
Tupac was eventually cast in several feature films and recorded several chart topping albums. In fact, he released the first ever double hip-hop CD and remains the top selling Hip-Hop artist of all time! Tupac accomplished a lot before his murder at the age of 25. Today, years after his physical departure, Tupac's gift- his creative talent- continues to inspire others around the world!
BESMRTAN U VOŠTANOJ FIGURI
Najpoznatiji lanac muzejeva voštanih figura "Madame Tussauds" otrkila je skulpturu hip hop legende Tupaca Shakura, 5. travnja 2006. godine u Las Vegasu.
Skulpturu je izradila Jeni Fairey koja radi za spomenuti muzej u Londonu, koja je već prije radila voštane figure Beyonce...
Figura predstavlja Tupaca bez majce sa klasičnom maramom koju je nosio i do detalja vlastoručno izrađenim tetovažama.
Stvaranje statue obuhvaćalo je više od 700 sati rada i 300 kg gline na dan. Muzej traži pravo od "Interscope Records" i "Universal music" da pustaju Tupacovu glazbu za vrijeme obilaska muzeja.
Kao komemoracija na 10 godina Tupacove smrti, muzej je dopustio da Tupacova figura prođe relaciju po galerijama od New Yorka, Hong Konga, Shangaia i Londona. Nakon toga će biti prikazana u "Tupac Amaru Center for the Arts (TASCA)" , školi koja se nalazi u Atlanti i ondje će biti mjesec dana.

Otišao je kao što je i živio, zaključili su mnogi, a njegova smrt u skladu uzrečice da život imitira umjetnost bila je u tolikom skladu s njegovim pjesmama da ne čudi Tupacova enormna posthumna popularnost i kultni status. Albumi objavljeni nakon njegove smrti, kao i poezija i filmovi u kojima se pojavljivao, i danas pune vrhove top listi.
No, kakav je bio čovjek iza urbane legende, umjetnik ispod zlatnog lanca, opaki lik iza revolvera zataknutog u hlače koji je svojim imidžom stvorio prototip repera, neodoljiv milijunima mladih širom svijeta? U potragu za tim pitanjem zaputio se poznavatelj afroameričke kulture, sveučilišni profesor Michael Eric Dyson.
Dyson je u razgovoru s Tupacovom majkom, kao i raznim glazbenicima koji su s njim surađivali, nastojao što više prodrijeti u dubinu priče - počevši od njegovog djetinjstva u crnačkom getu, života s majkom ovisnicom i revolucionarkom koja je snažno utjecala na život svog sina. Autor se upustio u svojevrsnu potragu za pričama o Tupacu nastojeći istražiti zašto je taj mladić izrastao iz miljea Crnih pantera i siromaštva postao „svetac, mučenik, crni Elvis Pristley“.

CRIPS
The Crips, originating in Los Angeles, California, are one of the oldest, largest, and most notorious gangs in the United States. They have been involved in murders, robberies and drug dealing in the Los Angeles area. The Crips are mostly identified by the blue color worn by their members. What was once a single gang is now a loose network of "franchises" around the United States. The gang is primarily composed of African Americans. The gang has an intense rivalry with the Bloods. They are also known to feud with Chicano gangs.
HISTORY
The Crips were founded in Los Angeles, California in 1969 by 15 year old Raymond Washington. Washington initially called the gang the Baby Avenues in an attempt to emulate older gangs and activities carried out by the Black Panthers with which he was fascinated. This evolved to Avenue Cribs and then Cribs as nicknames for the age of the members.[1] The name Crips was first introduced in the Los Angeles Sentinel newspaper in a description by crime victims of young men with canes, as if they were crippled (though there is some discussion that it may have initially been a simple spelling mistake). The name stuck.
Stanley Tookie Williams, generally acknowledged as co-founder of the Crips,[2] started his own gang called the Westside Crips. The Crips became popular throughout southern Los Angeles as more youth gangs joined it; at one point they outnumbered non-Crip gangs by 3 to 1, sparking disputes with non-Crip gangs including the L.A. Brims, Athens Park Boys, The Bishops and The Denver Lanes. The Crips eventually became the most powerful gang in California. In response, all of the other besieged gangs, including the Pirus, formed an alliance that later became the Bloods.
Along with friends, Williams and Washington created the initial intent of continuing the revolutionary ideology of the 1960s. These aspirations were unattainable because of a general lack of political leadership and guidance. Washington and Williams were never able to develop an agenda for social change within the community and instead became obsessed with protecting themselves from other gangs in the community.
By 1971 the gang's notoriety had spread across Los Angeles. The gang became increasingly violent as they attempted to expand their turf. By the early 80s the gang was heavily involved with drug trade.
In 1971 a Crip set on Piru Street, Compton, known as the Piru Street Boys was formed. After two years of peace, a feud began between the Piru Street Boys and the other Crip sets that would later turn violent when members of the Piru Street Boys were getting killed by their own allies. This battle continued until the mid 1970s when the Piru Street Boy wanted to call an end to the violence, and called a meeting with other gangs that were targeted by the Crips. After a long discussion, the "Pirus" broke off all connections to the Crips and started an organzation that would later be called the "Bloods", a streetgang infamous for its rivalry with the Crips.
Since then, other 'beefs' and feuds were started between many of the remaining sets of the Crip gang. It is a popular misconception that Crip sets feud solely with Bloods. In reality, they also fight other Crip sets — for example, the Rollin' 60s and 83rd Street Gangster Crips ("Eight-Tray") have been rivals since 1979, and their rivalry is currently the largest in L.A. In Watts LA, the Grape Street Crips and the PJ Crips have feuded so much that the PJ Crips even teamed up with local Bloods set the Bounty Hunter Bloods to fight against the Grape Street Crips. A clique (a smaller group within a set) within the PJ Crips is even called 'Tha GK (Grape Killa) Boys'. The Hoover Crips developed huge rivalries with many Crip gangs in Los Angeles. Because of this they decided to stop being Crips and changed their name to the Hoover Criminal Gang.
In the 1980s, Crips moved into the sale of crack, a form of the drug cocaine. It was developed as a simpler alternative to the process of freebasing, which necessitates the use of controlled and dangerous chemicals such as ether. Inexpensive and highly-addictive crack could be marketed by the Crips to lower-income brackets.
The Crips made enormous profits from selling crack and gathered the capital to advance themselves in the illicit markets. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s the Crips developed intricate networks and a respected reputation with other gangs across America and neighboring countries.
To stem violence between the Crips and Bloods, a peace treaty was recently negotiated, most notably in Watts, the treaty being largely based upon the ideals laid forth by original Crip co-founder Stanley Tookie Williams in his "Tookie Protocol For Peace". Though violence levels have been reduced somewhat after the conclusion of this peace treaty, gangland killings and warfare persist in heavily gang-controlled areas.
For many years, Crips were characterized by their tendency to wear blue in order to easily identify each other. One suggested origin of the selected color is traced to the school colors of Washington High School in South L.A. Another theory is the co-founder, Stanley Williams, had a good and close friend called "Buddha", who wore blue shirts, khakis, shoes, and a blue bandana from his back left pocket. When Buddha died, Williams made blue the Crip color in honor of Buddha. A particular set of Crips, the Grape Street Crips, have been known to wear purple in addition to blue. The SGC's, (Shotgun Crips), are separated into three sub-sets: the Nine, 139th street; the Foe, 134th street; and the Deuce, 132nd street in the city of Gardena, California and have been known to wear dark-green, the city color of Gardena, in addition to blue to show that the Shotgun Crips are from Gardena. Crips also wear blue bandanas and British Knights sport shoes (using the company moniker BK, which the Crips use as a backronym meaning "Blood Killas"). They usually refer derisively to their rivals, the Bloods, as "slobs" and "busters."
In more recent years, however, the Crips have begun to cease the use of colors as a means of identification, since it is likely to draw attention from police. Methods such as the use of college sport team and hats are sometimes used, but in general, what set a certain gang member claims can be determined solely by their tattoos.
Many Crips will also change words containing the letter B or choose another word to replace it, the best being a word with a C. This is due to their hatred of Bloods. If no word can reasonably be substituted, the letter B will be crossed out to show disrespect. Sometimes excessive use of the letter C also occurs, such as "be right baCC" to refrain from using the initials "ck" which stands for "Crip Killer". Also the letter B can be written Bk as in "Blood Killer".
Origin of the name "Crips"
There have been many different explanations for the origin of the name of the gang:
The most well-known theories tie the current name with "crib" or "crib street" (alluding to an actual street or the young age of the members at the time of the gang's founding).
"Crip" originates from the carrying of a cane or stick — Los Angeles Times 14 April 1992: "Word spread about the tough-looking young men, who some said carried canes and walked with a limp — cripples, or crips, they were called for short."

Crips, hip-hop, and C-walk
Many popular rappers, in particular West Coast rappers, have close ties to Crips gangs in L.A. County. Snoop Dogg is a former member of the Rollin' 20 Crips in Long Beach (as are Warren G, Nate Dogg, and Goldie Loc), while WC has an affiliation with the 111 Neighborhood Crips in South Central Los Angeles. The late N.W.A member Eazy-E reportedly had ties to the Kelly Park Compton Crips. Recently signed G-Unit rapper Spider Loc is a member of the 97th Street East Coast Crips. Also G-Unit West's Snoopy Blue is also part of the 97th Street East Coast Crip gang. It is said that the popular hip-hop dance, the C-walk (Crip-walk), is meant to spell out one's set as an insult to rival gangs. On WC's song "The Streets" from his Ghetto Heisman album, he and Snoop Dogg rap about the C-walk's popularity in the mainstream, telling suburban teenagers and other non-gang members that it is a dance for Crips only. Another song with a similar instance is "Not a Dance", by Spider Loc, Young Buck and C-Bo.
