Generation X

Generation X

The generation that declared a social revolution to become seperated from the boomers and generations before them! This generation wasn't taught respect or anything, thus leading to youth decline bringing on the decline of modern civilization altogether! It wasn't even known for the greatest of parents either, but having much lack of morality. Generation B said that generation x was full of slackers and generational breakers, they retaliated by saying they were helping to reshape history and introduce much invention that would bring about the future. In the music world and in others this generation began experimenting with many things. They tried synthesizers and sound samples especially machinery introduction to music creating music like Disco, Electronica, House, Industrial, New Wave and Glam. They experimented with clothes, culture and makeup! The social revolution started about the 70's when disco inferno was the big deal, then they moved forward into the 80's continuing mainstream culture with the modern renassiance giving glam and new wave especially the new rebellion known as heavy metal, they finally arrived at the 90's the golden decade where entertainment value was very high, grunge was great, alternative granted the freedom of random exploration and goth was a way to respond to the sappy pop music of the time. Trends such as skaters, vampire kids, wiggers, preps and even backwards kids began alongside the mall trends of metal, punk and goth. This generation crossed genres in which to create new ones or to create a new feel for the old ones. Countless subcultures and other counter cultures existed around this generational time. This generation also got to see the changing of the millennium though their culture was finished just before!

In addition to Harajuku is its counterpart, known as Visual Kei. this refers to the style of bands and their fanbase. The term Visual Kei literally means a ‘visual style of music’. The melodies of the music these bands perform often resemble eighties rock, heavy metal, or techno; in some cases, the sound is a good mix of the three. The fashion began in the 80’s, when American metal bands were popular. Japanese fans loved how their idols would dress frantically and paint makeup wildly on their faces, so they began to emulate their style. This mimicking is also known is costume play, or cosplay. In fact, X Japan, a formerly well-loved Visual Kei band, is said to be responsible for the start and renewal of this trend. They even are responsible for naming the style. Yet as the year 2000 neared, the fan base started depleting. X Japan was discouraged, so they ended their reign. Seven years later, however, the Visual Kei scene began making a comeback. New and old fans joined together in cosplay. X Japan, though recently suffering the loss of their lead guitarist, saw the newfound excitement and decided to reunite. The publicity Visual Kei music began to get was mind-blowing. The media nicknamed this revolution ‘Neo-Visual Kei’. Outside cultures have a slanted view on the Japanese style, mistaking Visual Kei bands with American boy bands. Neither are the same, aside from the fact that they are involved in the entertainment industry. Boy bands are put together and molded into a package that the world wants. Visual Kei bands form on their own and have to work hard to get their own publicity until a label decides to sign them on board. One of the biggest differences is that boy bands do not compose their own songs, while Visual Kei bands usually do.
